Patina® is the highest rated Microsoft® Paint replacement app in the Mac App Store.

Tools and color management in Patina are simple and intuitive.

You can use Patina to sketch an idea, draw a diagram, illustrate a concept, or paint a picture.

The screen shots here showcase the type of artwork you can do in Patina, but Patina is great for all kinds of other personal and work purposes too.

Patina can even be used as a very basic image management tool for cropping, rotating, resizing, and saving photos as a different file type.

As a Mac user accustomed to attractive, well-designed software, you'll appreciate Patina's elegant interface and user-friendly design.

If you've used Microsoft Paint before, you'll find that Patina is as simple to use as Paint, if not simpler, and has additional really useful features, including rotation of objects at any angle, transparent image saving, opening/importing of PDF, AI, PSD, and EPS files, and more.

Unlike most other Paint-like apps that are derivations of an open source program, Patina was designed and built from scratch in the US with great care and attention to detail to be as easy to use as possible.

We're confident that you'll find Patina to be the best simple painting, drawing, and sketching app in the Mac App Store.

Read the Quick Start Guide on our support page for some simple information about how to get started using Patina, and read the FAQs if you want to learn more about using advanced features, such as transparency, controlling rotation in fixed increments, smooth edges (anti-aliasing), smooth resizing (interpolation), alpha color blending, DPI settings, and more.

Check out the tutorial screen in the app (go to the Patina menu, then click on "Show Tutorial") and the demo video on (note that the demo video is from an earlier version of the app and doesn't include all current features).

Contact us at [email protected] if you cannot figure out how to do something.

IMPORTANT: Patina is not a vector app, does not have layers, and does not allow you to isolate and manipulate already drawn objects in the same way that you can in a layout app like Pages or in a presentation app like Keynote or PowerPoint. If you post a negative review stating that Patina does not do any of those things, we are going to point out that you did not read this description before purchasing and we will request that Apple remove the review since it is unfair to fault the app for not doing something that you were informed it does not do.

If you have a comment or suggestion, please email us at [email protected] We greatly value and appreciate your input. Some new features are the direct result of feedback from users.

Patina is Retina optimized and works great with all versions of OS X and MacOS starting with 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and including Mojave.

If you like Patina, we really appreciate you letting other Mac users know about the quality of the app by leaving a rating in the Mac App Store for this current version, and writing a review if you have time. We offer Patina at a low price to make it available to as many people as possible. In order to support our ongoing efforts to continually improve the app, it's really helpful if our users can rate it. Thank you for taking a moment to do that for us!

Patina is crafted with care in California and Washington.

Release Notes:

Patina is now better than ever. Here's what's new in this version:

• Improvement in "undo" functionality (sorry for any instability you may have experienced previously - it should be rock solid stable now)
• Improvement in methods for saving transparent images (for more details, read the related topics in the Quick Start Guide and FAQs on
• Added support for opening/importing EPS format files

When you read reviews, keep in mind that most comments that are not positive are either because before buying the app the user didn't first read here the description of what the app does do and does not do, or because the user assumed the app doesn't do something that it actually does do, and they would know it does do that if they read the Quick Start Guide and FAQs, or if they simply asked us.

Excellant Basic Drawing Program - The user interface is straight forward and simple. Great entry level drawing and painting app for kids and those with lite drawing needs. Price is awesome! The only thing I could ask for, and be willing to pay more $$ for, is a limited number of layers. No more than five, three being ideal for tracing, color and lineart. Folks just starting out drawing or with lite drawing needs often want to trace or practice on other artwork. If this app had layers, it would be a perfect entry level drawing app on the APP Store. I love the slider for brush size. Comment… I see another reviewer really lowered their review due to lack of UNDO, cmd-z works perfectly on this app, not sure why that was a negative. Some say it is too limited in features, but that is the beauty of an entry level app. New Artist, kids and special needs people really need a basic program. There are plenty of programs to “GROW” into as your art improves. Please don’t evolve this into a PHOTOSHOP clone to where you have to chrage $100 to stay in the game. The people that this is aimed at need an entry level program.

Minimal Functions - Microsoft Paint is definitely superior. Patina has less than 10 functions that you can hardly do anything with. No select tool makes it impossible to go back and adjust your drawing. And for $3? Understandable if it was free because of its limitedness. Absolutely not worth the money.

No vectors - I am very disappointed that all elements placed on the canvas imediatly become bitmaps and can not be edited. For example if you draw an arrow and later decide it needs to be longer you have to erase it and start over.

Review by Prices, bad. Gameplay,good

Not worth the money - Microsoft paint is better by far, patina has very little useful tools, and is not ideal for drawing/photo editing. to undo you have to open the “edit” tab on the top bar of your screen, there isn’t an undo button. You cannot edit the opacity of images or tools, it is hard to resize things, it’s basically like going back to normal drawing on paper. I would honestly rather use google slides than patina. I could see this app being semi-succesful as a free app, but this isn’t even close to worth the $. 0/10 would not use again.
