Didn’t Know What I Was Missing - All this time, I had been seeing Carrot Weather at a distance, seeing what it can do, but I wasn’t impressed at first. But then I finally took the plunge and bought it on the iOS and Mac platforms. Well worth the money!!! This app is WAY better than Forecast (especially on the Apple Watch) or even the native Dark Sky app! But, this app has some pretty good humor, and it is definitely a trip to poke the daylights out of the Ocular Sensor every now and then (LOL). The Snarks are awesome, and definitely will get you laughing at least every once in a while. That’s all well and good, but it really does get down to business when it comes to knowing what weather is coming your way, giving detailed analysis of whatever weather conditions are present at any location you desire. And, the Mac app is definitely awesome as well, employing keyboard shortcuts throughout the app. For those of us on the Mac, we know that is something that should be required for every app out here: Keyboard Shortcuts!! Now, if Carrot Weather can improve their Radar app to be on the same level as MyRadar, we will be absolutely golden. And, because of the snarks, I’ll have to make sure now that I don’t inadvertently call someone a meatbag (LOL)….
Very much regret purchasing - After playing around with this app for a couple days, I don’t get the hype. Forecast Bar (another Forecast.io Mac weather app) is much better, and not to mention cheaper. One of the reviewers below says they left Forecast Bar because it asked for a subscription. What are they talking about? It comes with the same hourly updates for free, and gives the OPTION of paying for faster updates (but even so, a one time payment, not a subscription). Avoid this app and get Forecast Bar instead. It has the exact same weather source, a much better layout, more favorable reviews, way more features and it’s even cheaper. This app is a great example of how marketing can be more important than quality, and as buyers, you shouldn’t let that happen.

good when it works - I like that Carrot Weather can show me the current weather condition and Feels Like temperature in my menu bar. Unfortunately, that feature is unreliable at best, just like the rest of the app. When Carrot launches on startup with my Mac, the menu bar item is blank until I click on it. Then nothing happens and it stays blank. Once I eventually get the menu to come out, it shows the weather for the north pole until I can get the main window open. After a few minutes of closing quitting and reopening Carrot it will eventually understand that I do in fact have a network connection and finally just show me the temperature.
DO NOT BUY - App looks nice BUT if you want it to run in the background and be able to access it through the top menu bar it will NOT work unless the app is open on your docks. So i have to open the app before i can click the icon on the menu bar to have access to it. Very unhappy with functionality. When i wanted to subscribe to premium it continues to say error message.
Love the iOS version, Mac version too buggy to recommend - Love the app on iPhone and iPad, but I run into a lot of issues with the Mac version. It crashes frequently, has trouble with multiple screens (when I plug my Macbook into an external monitor, the menu bar icon and data only appears on whichever screen is active, and a blank space appears on the menu bar on the other). Perhaps most frustrating, when I click on the dock icon, nothing happens. I'd like the option to have the full window popup when I do that, but I can only get there when I click on the menu bar, go to the gear, and select open main window.
lots of bugs, hard to rely on as a menu-bar app - I absolutely love the iOS app and the watch complications, but the mac app… just doesn't live up to the promise of its siblings. Just a sampling of some of the bugs that make it unusable: - Sometimes the menu-bar status will just stop updating; it's midday and raining and 72F outside but the status icon shows me a picture of a moon and "56°". - Constant glitches on a multi-monitor setup; clicking the menu bar brings it up on the wrong display, or fails to bring it up entirely. - Leave it running for a long time in the background and it forgets how to re-open its main window. - Leave it full-screen for too long and the window goes black, failing to display anything other than the "ocular sensor" - Keyboard navigation is very poor; arrow keys don't do anything, things that should be a toggle like "weather alerts" are not. The odd choice to use "control" rather than "command" in a few hotkeys in the UI screws up native editing shortcuts (control-A, control-H) in text fields. Overall the app just comes off as a shoddy, buggy port of the iOS version and I really hope it improves.
Not accurate, not worth $15 for forecast features - I can't believe I paid $15 hoping I'd have something better than free weather service. There was a severe thunderstorm and this app thought it was overcast. You only get very basic radar information unless you pay a monthly fee (not what I was hoping for). If you're looking for an interactive game like experience, this is it. If you're looking for in depth weather information, look eleswhere; it's often free (with ads).
