Today at WWDC the announcement of a brand new MacBook Pro took the audience by surprise. Dubbed the "Next Generation MacBook Pro", after explaining that to create a radically new and thin notebook, you would need to discards old, legacy things, Phil Schiller unveiled the new product from Apple.
Adding to the existing line of MacBook Pro's, this new model is based around a 15.4" Retina Display with a 2880x1880 resolution. With over 220 ppi (pixels per inch) the screen houses 5,184,000 pixels! Housing the screen within the unibody design allows the design to do away with the glass cover section, and therefore have a thinner screen than before.
The notebook itself boasts a quad-core Ivy Bridge processor, with up to 2.8GHz processor speed and with a turbo boost of up to 3.7GHz. Combine this with a configurable about of RAM up to 16GB and up to 768GB of next generation flash storage, then this is proving to be not only a thin, compact and mobile computer, but a powerhouse which will be able to run some intense applications. The new MacBook Pro weighs in at 4.46 lbs and is only 0.71" thick.
Another great design feature is the fan which is encased within the unibody. Because of its asymmetrical fan design, as the user, you will experience very low noise coming from the fan. This new technology and innovative design allows Apple to claim that the system operates at a noise level which is nearly imperceptible to the user.
Apple has managed to cram in a lot of extra processing power and still maintain the same 7 hour battery life in a smaller case. Other specification of the new model include an SD card slot, and a much needed HDMI port. USB 2.0/3.0 ports as discussed in the earlier post update about the other MacBook Pro notebooks, and MagSafe power port, two thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack. New speakers and microphones also have been added to improve the quality of the sound as a whole.
Pricing of the new MacBook Pro starts at $2,199 for the base model, which includes a Retina display, 2.3GHz quad-cord Ivy Bridge Processor, 8GB of RAM, an NVidia GeForce GT 650M 1GB graphics card and 256GB of flash storage. The MacBook Pro begins shipping as of today and can be found here on Apple's website.
