Description:

myBookAlarm - The ultimate Alarm and Protection System for your Computer.

Opportunity makes the thief. So why don't directly signal that you're prepared and that they won't have any fun and use with your beloved Computer and that their face may end up on Facebook and Twitter and they may also end up in an orange jumpsuit collecting waste.

myBookAlarm can't prevent your Computer from everything - but it will scare off potential sneak thieves and protect your important data. And should your Computer really get stolen - myBookAlarm can help to identify the thief, prevent him from selling it and can help you to get it back quickly.

In case of an alarm you will immediately get an email and SMS notification containing a mugshot taken with the iSight camera and if you've enabled the 'stealth mode' on a restricted guest account - myBookAlarm will periodically send its location, IP address and screen shots - thus you can see what happens on your stolen Computer and tracking it down is a piece of cake.

Of course myBookAlarm can't replace horse sense and you have more to do to protect your Computer. In the help and manual you will find detailed information on how to properly setup myBookAlarm and what else you can do to secure your Computer.

* Protect

Protect your beloved Computer and your important data from unwanted access and theft on the fly or by hand - to scare of potential sneak thieves or nosy roommates and colleagues…

* Deter

Think of myBookAlarm as the car alarm for your Computer. Once armed, it will only allow access to your Computer with the correctly entered password - otherwise the thief won't have any fun or use at all…

* Notify

Get notified by email and SMS messages in case of an alarm. In stealth mode myBookAlarm will periodically send additional screen shots - thus you can see what happens on your stolen Computer…

* Locate

myBookAlarm helps you locate and recover your stolen Computer by periodically sending its current location and IP Address - thus you can locate your stolen Computer within a range of some feet…

IMPORTANT NOTES!

I KNOW, THERE ARE SOME OUTDATED APPS OUT THERE THAT CAN MONITOR THE SUDDEN MOTION SENSOR OR MAKE USE OF THE REMOTE CONTROL OF YOUR COMPUTER.

MYBOOKALARM DOESN'T. NEWER COMPUTER DON'T HAVE A SUDDEN MOTION SENSOR ANY MORE AND NEITHER A REMOTE AS WELL. AND DO YOU REALLY CARRY YOUR REMOTE WHILE ON THE ROAD?

MYBOOKALARM CAN ONLY SEND NOTIFICATION IN CASE THERE IS AN ACTIVE INTERNET CONNECTION AVAILABLE. THUS YOU REALLY SHOULD THINK OF SETTING UP AN RESTRICTED GUEST ACCOUNT, ALLOWING A POTENTIAL THIEF TO ACCESS THE INTERNET.

AND PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - READ THE VERBOSE HELP AND MANUAL AND MAKE USE OF THE SUPPORT - SECURING AND PROTECTING YOUR COMPUTER IS WORTH 5 MINUTES OF WORK, SOME READING AND IF NEEDED A LITTLE HELP!

:-( - Keeps on crashing. Will not let me shut off the alarm with password or anything after the laptop has been on sleep mode. Fix this and you get a 5 star rating. :-)

My Book Alarm - This app is really amazing. I am in afghanistan and when I tested it out it showed my exact location on google maps. I was really impressed. The decoy guest account was a excellent idea. In general the thought process that went into designing this app is impressive. The other negative ratings that you see here are because someone could not follow directions. You really have to pay attention to detail when setting up this app. If you follow the instructions it will be worth it. If you have any questions the support email responds promptly and accurately addresses your issues. A+

Doesn’t Work Like it Should - I found that this app took a lot of work to set it up with a user created guest account as detailed in the user manual. In fact too much work. And after doing that it will let me start the computer and enter that guest account where I had access to this app even though I set it not to show up. Thus defeating the purpose of having that guest account. Also this alarm will only protect the computer if it is stolen while both computer and this app is running. It will not protect the computer if it is stolen when the computer is turned off. When you turn the computer on and enter that aforementioned guest account it will not set off the alarm. Since that is case what is the purpose of having an alarm? Since the alarm only protects the computer if it is stolen while running, I find that a locking cable will serve that purpose better. When I activated firevault, the computer readily goes into password protection if you step away for a moment. That’s good but as the user manual states password protecting the screen saver or anything like it, which firevault does, will interfere with deactivating this alarm app since it will be nearly impossible to type in both passwords without the alarm going off. So this app doesn’t play well if you are using firevault. Lastly, when I contacted the developer to get help all they could do was restate what was in the user manual. What is the good of that? I know how to read a manual. I wasn’t able to get help from them. In fact, they suggested that I contact the AppStore to get my money back. Which is what I am going to do next. Don’t waste your money on this app unless they improve how it works. Mainly it needs to work with firevault’s screen lock and should protect the computer if it is stolen while turned off. Hopefully someday Apple will create an integrated alarm system for protecting their laptop computers.
