iMass calculates the molar mass (also called molar weight) of any molecule or compound given its chemical formula. It also displays its elemental composition (% carbon, % oxygen, etc.) as a pie chart.
It also displays the isotopic pattern and calculates the isotopic distribution, as well as monoisotopic mass and most probable mass.
* Update to IUPAC 2009 natural abundances
* Add Copernicium
* Enable sandboxing
* Fix display of isotope in formula (using superscript)
* Add high-resolution icon

Tool for Professionals and Amatures - I am a professional mass spectrometrist and I need a simple and fast application for calculating monoisotopic masses and generating isotopic distributions for compounds. This certainly fits the bill more so than other inexpensive Lion-compatible software I have seen. Furthermore, I have made a number of suggestions for added features to the developers and they have been very responsive in developing a dialogue with me.
Not useful for a laboratory chemist - A key feature that this app is missing is the ability to create abbreviations for molecules, molecular fragments, and complex ions, e.g. Me for CH3, Et for C2H5, etc. With this feature, a laboratory chemist such as myself can quickly obtain the molecular formula of large and complicated organic and inorganic compounds. Without this feature, I probably won't ever use this app.
