Writer is a minimal text editor. It strips away all text formatting and focuses on the writing.
▶ Full Lion support
▶ Word and character counts
▶ Minimal design
▶ Window pinning
▶ Smart window zoom
▶ Document versioning
Full Lion support
Writer supports Lion's most advanced features such as autosave and document versioning. Writer works with auto resume too!
When other applications start distracting your creative workflow, easily switch to fullscreen mode. Writer was designed to be used both in windowed and fullscreen mode so you can access all the tools from either view.
Most writing involves referencing other work and with Writer's pin-down feature you can keep your documents while looking up articles or other documents. Never lose track of your documents in window clutter.
Word and character count
Word count is an important tool in a writer's text editor. That's why Writer was built from the ground up to support robust word and character count that keep counting long after other text editors hang and crash.

Good App, Great Support - This app does exactly what it sets out to do. Simple, elegant, and easy-to-use. I encountered one small problem, so I emailed the developer who promptly responded with a fix, information about when the bug will be fixed (next update), and even a promo code for my trouble (which was minimal). All in all I'd say five stars. Well done sir!
No fon - A little too minimal, you cannot change font or highlight that still needed for me when writing. Hopefully this will be updated and be perfect!!

The best out there, but with a critical flaw. - This was the best writing app out there and I loved it so much, but today, I finished writing a 1200 word essay in Writer, and proceeded to save it. Everything went normally, but later I realized that my Document would not open. It was a .txt file, and neither writer nor textedit could open it. It was encoded in Unicode 32 or something, and that's the error I kept getting. Quick Look fails to open it, too, and opening the file in Safari just shows thousands of question marks. All of my work has been lost, and my paper was due yesterday. I took a zero on a major college paper for this crap. I have reproduced this and it happens every time. Please fix this encoding bug.
Works well but a bit too minimal - This app is almost perfect. I did not realize how minimal of a word processor this app is. It would have been nice to be able to change font size, italics/bold/underline, and have some bullet formatting available. I understand how this app is supposed to get rid of those distractions, but even having those options available as mere shortcuts (cmd+, cmd-, cmd i , cmd b, cmd u, etc.) would be nice. The Exit Full Screen shortcut doesn't seem to work either.
Help Please! - How Exactly can i change the font ? How Can I Highlight the words ?
The Best - This app is the best of its kind. I am sorry I wasted money on other bloatware apps that profess to be minimalist editors. I am not interested in markdown, markup, blah blah blah whatever. I'm not writing code. I just want a SIMPLE text editor that launches very quickly where I can jot down poetry or small essays. THIS IS IT. THANK YOU to the developers for not integrating with iCloud! That drives me nuts. If I want my documents in the cloud, I'll put them there, and I won't use Apple's terrible cloud storage. I'm not sure what iSnowbir is talking about with UTF-32 issues. Both TextEdit and Writer can open UTF-32 files, so that problem is not related to Writer. I highly recommending spending $$$ on this app before you waste it on other inferior (albeit more popular) choices.
It's good for copying and pasting Word docs into blog or HTML editors - I manage a corporate blog program and most of my blog entires are sent to me in Word format. So if you paste those in directly into the blog editor, all that Microsoft Word code makes things all funky. I needed an app to strip all that crap out and this does the job. My only ding is that it doesn't convert smart quotes and commas into "simple text" so I still have to go and do a search and replace for those. Not a big deal though. This app is worth the price.
