Bring the normal login funciton back, PLEASE!! - I used the Wechat Mac function a lot because I tend to forget my phone at home. Now the new verstion of Wechat Mac has removed ‘log in with Wechat ID”, why should I still keep this version on my Mac since I don’t always have my phone with me. This is stupid and ridiculous. Not everyone carries their phone everywhere, computer engineers! Please bring this function back and make our lives much easier, rather than ‘cool’ and complicated.

Can’t use without a phone! - The charging port on my iPhone died yesterday. I downloaded the app to my laptop hoping to commuicate with a student who’s dog I’m taking care of, and I can’t use the desktop app without a phone to scan the QR code! Our time zones are exactly 12 hrs apart, so I can’t expect her to receive any urgent medical information about her dog until it is too late to make a decision. My phone is dead until I get it to Apple, and Apple is not close by. The point of a desktop app is that you don’t need a phone to use it!

DO NOT USE THIS APP! - This app is useless! I want to use wechat on Mac just because I left my phone at home! But this app ask me to use my phone to log in! If I have my phone with me, I don’t need to use wechat on Mac!

Can’t change my webcam - Changing the webcam I use with video call is now essential to me, because of the work I do, the built in cam on my Mac is not good enough, I need to use a different one. But WeChat always defaults to the built in cam. With Skype I can change the webcam I want to use, but with WeChat I can’t. Please add this feature!

Its most serious problems are by design. - In theory, this would be a useful app. I could speak to virtually anyone I know in China with it, and the rare individual outside of China who has it. But I do not like this app at all. This is for two main reasons. 1. Phone authentication is the worst user interface idea ever invented. Must we really do this EVERY SINGLE TIME we log out of our Macs or briefly switch to our phones? Just trust us to use a password like any other website or app. 2. There is no chat history. It goes away every time you log out of the app. For business conversations, this makes it worthless, since you can’t go back and look at what you said last week about this or that project. Fix these and my opinion might change. UPDATE 6/11/17 - I get the feeling that the Tencent team is unconcerned about user opinions. The phone authentication for Mac use issue still has not been fixed; does Tencent think this is a FEATURE? And the shared chat history between Mac and phone is either still not in place. If it is, it doesn’t work. I have no phone chat history on my Mac. Dear Tencent, pleaase make this like Apple’s Messages app. Otherwise, the Mac app is for all intents and purposes, useless. And since typing on a smartphone is at most, a necessary evil, I would prefer to use the Mac app 90% of the time. Please, Tencent, make these changes.
