DON - Cool!!
This is CRAP. Bad quality of extracted part! - I have been looking long for an app like this. There are a number of free ones but I thought that if a actually paid for one, I would get something good. If you extract a piece of an .avi video, the extracted part will have a VERY bad resolution. It becomes all pixalated. Totaly worthless. I would like my money back…

IT WORKS AS STATED , BUT…. - I will do the cons first. First of all it took a while to figure out what all of the buttons were for. When you click on “Help” in the top tool bar , it says "help is not available for this Splitter”. I didn’t know how to use the bottom numbers, “Time, Start Time, End Time” until I played around with the program and found out what happens when I clicked on the “Set Start Time and the End Time” buttons. I’m still not sure how settng the ”Split Duration” for equal cuts in a video would be useful. The screen and scrub time line should be larger. The scrub bar is the same size as the Quicktime scrub bar, but Quicktime has a time display on the timeline as you move the pointer so you know where you are in the movie.. With Video Splitter, trying to advance or move back in a movie with the scrub bar to find a point to start or end point of the movie is difficult. There should be a realtime active time display like Quicktime to tell you at what point in time you are in the clip so you can go back to that point if you know the time you were at before. I’m surprise that this program did not build and enhanced video editing features better than Quicktime. Cons: Summary Screen too small, can not set a full screen. Scrub bar too small hard to click and drag it. Fine tuning of the start and end points of a clip is difficult to achieve. There is no time clock to indicate where you are in the movie so as to return to the same point in time. Video Splitter is a little slow when extracting the selected clip. It took almost 5 minutes to extract a 6:43 minute clip. The Pros: Video splitter does not require you to reload the original video to do additional editing like Quicktime. Video Splitter allows you to set the beginning (start time) and end (end time) that you wish to keep by just clicking on those buttons as you watch the movie. Video Splitter is simple to use after a short learning curve. Video Splitter eliminate the need for a full blown movie editor like iMovie. Summary: Quicktime can do similar editing of videos but it takes a little time to learn. There are two major differences between Quicktime and Video Splitter when it comes to extracting a clip from a movie. Quicktime has an adjustable screen that zooms out and zoom in. Video Splitter is fixed and too small. Quicktime has a clock on the scrub bar. Video Splitter does not. Video Splitter is a basic clip extractor. I can’t remember If I paid for this App, I would not buy it again until some of the items left out in the CONS: were incorporated then I would pay for it. I am recommending Video Splitter to anyone who find Quicktime or iMovie too daunting.
