Description:

VVVVVV is a retro styled 2D platformer by Terry Cavanagh, creator of dozens of free games. You play as the fearless leader of a team of dimension exploring scientists who inadvertently crash, and are separated. The game involves exploring the strange world you've found yourself in, and reuniting your friends.

VVVVVV explores one simple game mechanic: you cannot jump - instead, you reverse your own gravity at the press of a button. The game focuses on playing with this mechanic in a variety of interesting ways.

The game is designed not to artificially gate your progress. In VVVVVV there are no locks, no power-ups, no switches, nothing to stop you progressing except the challenges themselves.

The best game I've played in the last 5 years - VVVVVV is a wonderful retro game, but that is only a small part of its charm. The fact that it gets *absolutely everything* right is the real victory. The graphics are cute and sharp, the level design is super-creative and challenging, the puzzles are simple but often maddening, the music is amazing. Among the movies I've seen and books I've read in the last few yuears, VVVVVV stands out as one of the best pieces of entertaiment. I couldn't possibly recommend it any more.

Cute but dull - I like the minimalist old-school graphics and the simplicity of the game mechanics, but the graphics are blurry in fullscreen mode and the puzzles are pretty dull. Not enaging enough to stick with.

Really fun. - Get this game! I bought it a while back directly from the developer - and beat the game within an evening. It's a lot of fun - very frustrating at times, but still, a lot of fun. The idea is that you can only run left and right, and jump. When you jump, though, you flip gravity - if you're on the floor, you're now on the ceiling. If you were on the ceiling, you're now on the floor. That's it! Sounds easy, right? Riiiight? P.S. - You're going to die a lot. Don't worry about it.

Beautifully Nostalgic!!! - Since all of the other review are just telling you to BUY IT without any further details, I will try to explain it for the people, like me, that just stumbled upon this game in the mac app store... In this game you are a "captain" of a space ship of some kind. Something terrible goes wrong and sends you and your crew members into a different dimension. You have find everyone and somehow peice you ship back together (I think?)... This game seems like a tribute to the style of video games in the 80s. From the 8bit graphics, to the circuit bent music/sound, to the cheesy storyline and script... It's litterally like an 80's throwback game, but it's not sluggish or glitchy like games from the 80's, instead it plays very smooth and FAST! That all being said, every other reviewer is absolutely correct! BUY THIS GAME NOW!!!!!! If you were any kind of gamer in the 80s, not buying this game could potentially destroy anything left of that kid inside you...
