Durrant - I found this application informative and helpful. This is our first attempt at using a program to file our own taxes and I found it surprisingly easy.

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM ITUNES!!!!` - This App will charge you EVERY TIME YOU FILE A RETURN. If you are helping your kids with their taxes, it will charge you for every return. TURBO TAX allows 5 returns with the purchase of the software, but through ITUNES you will get ripped off every time you file. Another example of the greedy, money grubbing ways that we’ve come to expect. Again, don’t buy through ITUNES.

This version is not up to date - I tried filing my taxes through this software. It kept giving me a message saying that the software wasn’t up to date and to check for updates. Checking for updates didn’t show anything. So I deleted and reinstalled. Same exact message appeared. So then I tried using another computer running a different version of OS X. Same results. At this point I called turbotax. Spent 50 minutes on the phone, just to find out that the version in the app store (1.8.0) is not the current version of turbotax. Luckily, they were able to manually push me the updated version (which is version 2.0.0). Once I had the proper version, my taxes filed instantly.

eFile no longer works. - Unfortunately as of October 2015 eFiling no longer works. When you attempt to eFile the application reports that an update is required to eFile. There is no update on the Mac App Store or through the application - it is up to date. Intuit suggests removing and reinstalling the application - which I did, with the same result. This is especially disappointing considering I had paid for state eFile months ago and now cannot use it.

This is awful! I’ve used TurboTax for a decade and 2014 will be the last year. - I don’t have time to give the details of the issues so generally there is a very very limited view of how your answers to questions will appear on the real tax form, the view is limited forward and backward, there are no instructions from the video “instructors” that was so helpful, a comparison to last year is not immediately obvious (is it there?). This should be used in 1st grade to file practice returns because it is clearly not ready for prime time.

This version doesn’t work. Call and TurboTax will send you an update. - It’s a pretty awful circumstance on TurboTax but for whatever reason this version (1.8) simply can’t e-file. It says there was a validation error because there’s an update… but when you try to auto update, it doesn’t find anything. I called TurboTax support thanks to reviews here and sure enough, there is a new version that they will manually send to you. Once you have this, it e-files fine. I’m giving two stars because 1) In general the TurboTax experience is pretty great. 2) The support tech I had was really helpful and friendly 3) But all that said, it is unacceptable to be selling software that just blatantly does not work.
