You deserve a break. Easy break reminders, with flexible customization if you want it.

It is very easy to fall into bad habits when using a computer for hours on end. You care about what you are doing, so can sometimes push yourself too far, or over-strain yourself. The human body isn't built to sit in one position for endless hours, gripping a mouse or typing on the keyboard. Dejal Time Out is here to help. It will gently remind you to take a break on a regular basis.

Time Out comes with two kinds of breaks: a "Normal" break, typically for 10 minutes every hour, so you can move about and relax, plus a "Micro" break: a very brief pause of typically 15 seconds every 15 minutes, so you can remember not to tense up too much for long periods. You can change, disable or remove either kind of break if desired, and add new kinds of breaks, e.g. fixed lunch or afternoon breaks.

You can configure how long each kind of break lasts, and how long between breaks, and the breaks can be set to count backwards when you take a natural break, e.g. when you go away from your computer.

Version 2 features customizable break themes, with several variations to show during breaks. These themes can be edited if desired, using standard HTML.

While in a break, a progress bar shows how long till it is over, and buttons are available to postpone or skip the break if you can't be interrupted right then.

What's more, you can optionally perform various actions before, during or after breaks. You can display a notification, play a sound, speak some text, run a script, and more.

• Added an option to the Break Appearance preferences page to enable displaying the number of times a break has been postponed, skipped, and/or done each day, so you know how "good" you're being today.
• Also added options to enable limiting the number of times a break can be postponed and/or skipped each day. Useful if you find those buttons too hard to resist, but still want them there sometimes.
• Added an option to the Break Name preferences page to show the break label as a miniature pie chart of today's postponed/skipped/done counts.

Helping me take my life back!! - I am a writer who works from home. Until starting to use this software, I would take breaks from my writing, but always still sitting at my computer. For instance, I'd take a break by reading CNN, browsing the web, playing a game etc., which means I never left my screen. Since installing this simple app, however, I am breaking this awful habit. And it's quite amazing what I can get done in the breaks. The bed is made, my clothes are all put away, I break to eat healthy meals, my place is clean, I move around which loosens up my legs and hips and neck. And when I come back to work after the 10 minute break, I get a lot more done. I'm much more focused. I also realize how much time I was frittering away. No wonder I always felt like I never had time for things! I highly recommend this program. It has changed my life. Thank you Time Out!!

major bug - I have a logitech wireless keyboard & mouse. this app disables the click function on the mouse until shutdown!!!

Absolutely Indispensable - If you type all day for a living (writers, programmers, etc) you should not live without this app. Taking breaks at regular intervals will keep you from developing serious health problems and possibly need surgery to repair impacted nerves in your arm and neck. This app helps you take the small, but vital, breaks that will keep you out of the doctor’s office. The App is free, but given the money you’ll save in medical bills and physical therapy, making the ‘support’ donation is a massive return on investment. For those like me who hit the ‘postpone’ button when you are deep in a task, I found that configuring the software to remove the ‘postpone’ button and setting the background to solid red has been very helpful. Also, turns out a short break is often helpful to my tasks and doesn’t interupt my flow! A final “PS” - a few years ago a macOS update resulted in me having some bugs with the software - I reached out to the dev and he was beyond responsive and kept me in the loop as he worked on fixing the issue (which was ultimately Apple’s fault). The issue was fixed quickly and hasn’t come back!

Only One Problem - The "Light App Icon" in the menu bar looks like someone crying. I’d consider another icon. Other than that, this is not only a super app but the developer has obviously given it a LOT of thought. It is very configurable, the price is anything you want it to be, and the presentation of its action is pleasing and effective. What’s not to like? Ultimately, each one of us has to determine for ourselves to take the breaks the app provides as part of being responsible for our well being. Once over that small hurdle ;) this app very well provides all you need to structure more movement into your day and not just sit as an unmoving blob for gobs of time. Seriously well done and valuable! Commit to being well, get the app, just do it. NOW!

More effective than sitting 2 hours in meditation! - I decided to set Time Out for 10 second breaks every half hour. During these breaks, I use the time to center myself and to send wellbeing to humanity, world leadership, whomever was a part of the task I was engaged with when the break occurred, and myself. By bringing my spiritual practice into my day, I feel more integrated and whole throughout - much more so than when I was sitting in meditation for hours on end. The Time Out software is easy to use and pleasantly annoying - the gradual and subtle greying of the screen reminds me nicely to stop what I’m doing, though allows me to stubbornly persist should I choose to peer through the diversion. Time Out does permit me to just skip the break, but usually within one second, I’m reminded why I’m doing this and settle in. Besides, anyone can do anything for 10 seconds, can’t they?

Used to be better - They’ve updated and now hold most of their options hostage in exchange for a subscription. No lifetime licencing either. I’m suggest another break/time out tool
