Description:

The Audio Toolbox is an audio function generator for the Macintosh. Using no additional hardware, you can produce sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waveforms of any frequency up to 22 kHz, as well as generate noise - both pink and white.

The Audio Toolbox can be used to create all sorts of cool sound effects. You have full control over the frequency, type and volume of each sound produced.

You can generate up to 13 different waveforms. Each waveform can be routed to either the left or right channel, or to both. The amplitude of each waveform may be adjusted, as well as the volume on each channel, which is a mix of any waveforms routed to that channel. The settings of all 13 waveforms can be controlled via AppleScript.

In addition, there is a sweep generator. Super for producing "Whoop Whoop" sounds, sirens, and more.

A spectrum display allows you to look at which frequencies are present in an audio signal, using an FFT.

The oscilloscope display allows you to look at the input waveforms for both left and right channels.

Finally, the waterfall display shows a history of the spectrum over time.

Very nice app for my purpose - I found this app very useful to find the feedback frequency for 3 mics in a large meeting room. I essentially bought this app more for the spectrograph display than the tone generator. Using the spectrograph, it was easy to pinpoint the 3 different frequencies of the mic feedback (141, 347 and 415 Hz in my case) and adjust my mixer's simple parametric EQ's to compensate. The tone generators helped me to confirm the frequencies by listening (tone generator via headphone in one ear, listening to room howl with the other ear). My setup: Macbook Air (2010), M-Audio Fastrack Pro, and Audio Technica AT-3035 microphone.

Oscilloscope Function Fails - The program works except for the oscilloscope of the incoming audio… this doesn’t work on my macbook pro (recent) with El Capitan.
