StockSpy for Mac OS X
Now more than ever you need to be on top of what is happening with your investments...
StockSpy for Mac OS X simplifies tracking stock market news for the companies you follow and allows you to VISUALIZE how the news affects stock prices with NewsCharts!
With StockSpy you can automatically load several top quality RSS news feeds for each of the symbols you're tracking. This provides you with more complete information when making your important investment decisions. Stop losing money because you're not getting all the important news & information about your stocks. Say goodbye to wasting time by manually checking several news websites and still not getting the whole picture on your stocks. Start making more money because you have the information to make smart trades.
NewsChart technology shows you how the news volume changes over time. As you scroll through the news articles the NewsChart highlights the currently active bar for the visible news items in the news list. This means if you find a day which had interesting price change (like a big pop or drop) you can easily find out what news was "driving" the stock. We have taken this great innovation we call NewsCharts from Stock Spy for the iPad & iPhone (check them out in the AppStore) and brought it to Mac OS X!
StockSpy provides easy access to information from the top Investor websites with Symbol Specific website links. This allows you to browse detailed information about specific stocks having to type a symbol.
StockSpy allows complete customization of news sources. Our innovative feed template system allows you to setup a news feed once and use it for every symbol in your list. You can also add individual feeds to a specific stock. StockSpy uses the extremely popular RSS feed standard. Many popular financial news websites provide RSS news feeds free of charge. Blogs, investor relations sites even the SEC provide RSS feeds which can accessed using StockSpy!
With recent volatility in the global financial markets access to timely investment information is a necessity. With StockSpy on Mac OS X this information is at your fingertips.
This app has no limitations on functionality while the free version requires in app purchase to enable all features. These features include accessing cloud sync (if you sync with platforms other than Mac a separate purchase is required), editing news feeds, editing links, accessing all links, unlimited number of symbol groups & unlimited number of trades. Separate purchases are required for other platforms and Apps.
Stay tuned, because we're always developing new and exciting features for StockSpy. Updates are ALWAYS free!

Wow! An easy to use stock app... This is a first! -
Overall, this application is perfect for a novice trader or someone who simply wants to keep an eye on their long term positions. It provides you with easy to read charts, a simple yet informative watch list, and fast and simple (less than 3-click) navigation. I truly believe that if this developer would add more functionality to this app without touching the price, it could quite possibly be used in entry-level trading and quite possibly a professional trading platform. The speed and layout of this app (in my opinion) is absolutely perfect. I love when I can walk into a new app, and not feel lost in the woods. This app is simply why I love Mac. Easy to use, little complication, with big results.
The functionality and UI is very easy to adapt to, and most of all key features are streamlined, meaning, it's only one or two clicks to get exactly where you want. I love having the ability to update RSS feeds directly in the app, and it is very easy to do. Adding to your watch list is a breeze. This app is quite simple to setup, and aesthetically pleasing as well. I find complicated and overly exagerated options to sometimes cloud an end-user's ability to enjoy using the app. Let's face it- Nothing gives a headache more than an ugly UI to trade with. StockSpy is far from your typical "bird's nest"!
I realize that this is not a professional day trading application, but it seems to be a bit too limited in many basic functions. To put it bluntly, you can customize any web based chart (Google Finance, Yahoo Finance, MSN Money, etc.) more than you can edit this chart. Read my words carefully here- You cannot customize this chart in any way. It appears just as it does in the screen shots, and that is it. You can chose three different views, but they are not "customizeable".
This program is very much like many programs I have found on the App Store. They are great, but there's just so much more room for more! The program isn't buggy, but rather it doesn't give much for charting options, and it only has 3 possible views of your candlestick chart. You also can not mark on your charts. Basically, it's a program that interfaces with a painfully basic candlestick chart without any options at all. WYSIWYG
Suggestions for Future Releases-
I would like to be able to group my positions in my portfolio based on sectors. I would like to create a folder for energy, one for financials, and one for technology. I can't... Instead, I get a very long list of positions that are listed in the order that they were entered. So, if I enter GOOG and then later enter QCOM, QCOM will be listed on the top of GOOG. It can get cumbersome when looking for symbols.
I would at least like to be able to draw trend lines, as well as see a 24, 48, and Weekly view. The Daily, Weekly, and Monthly views are very limited.
I would also like to have a suggested search box that automatically suggests symbols based on typing in the actual name of the company. Example: If I want to look at QCOM, I could also type in Qua and have "Qualcomm:
Stupid - I give it five stars for everything except the app forcing me to rate it in the app store. The app locked up until I came here. I hate to be told what to do. Please provide a way to just say “no” or “later”.
