Skim just got much better – introducing version 2.0.

Skim is an intelligent app that analyzes huge quantities of text and rapidly extracts the most frequently used words.

These keywords are then displayed in an awesome graphical representation. This Cloud tells you, in the blink of an eye, what the main themes are in a text that could be hundreds of pages (or simply a few paragraphs) long.

Here are several situations in which Skim proves to be a great tool:

-Analyzing a song, book, or poem, and demonstrating the frequent use of certain words.

-Analyzing a political speech to see which words the speaker is over-using.

-Analyzing an article to get an idea of its main themes before you actually decide to read it.

-Visualization of any text.

Indeed, the possibilities are endless.

The fact that Skim is blazing fast (speeds of up to 50,000 words per second) means that you could, literally, save several hours a day by Skimming texts, rather than actually reading through the entire material.

Skim's ability to export your beautiful graph as an image means you can easily insert it into a virtual presentation, to prove your point to an audience. If you don't like the default colors and fonts, just customize them !

As if this wasn't enough, Skim can also export your Cloud to Facebook and Twitter; you could also email or message the image to your friends and colleagues.

Before you buy - Be aware that what’s shown in the sample pictures is exactly everything that this app can do. It doesn’t offer other views or other ways of analyzing your text, other than choosing different colors. I input the text of an entire novel and it just created a graphic of as many single words as are shown in the example. That’s not a problem if that’s what you want. But it’s more to create a pretty graphic than for real analysis.

What happened? - This was at one time a good app, but now every time I paste in text from a .txt or website, it just freezes up and gives me the color wheel of death.

Good tool - Skim is a good tool for quickly analyzing text to look for trends and patterns. You can paste text directly into the app or open a .txt file and it produces results quickly. The software would really go to the next level if you could open other file types directly from the app - word documents and PDFs would really make this thing SUPER useful. If you could rearrange the words once Skim gave it's results, that would make this app worth about 10x it's current price. Good job - cool tool.
