Simple and great - I hate Text Edit for mac now with the cloud. I needed a simple text editor that can actually save .txt files. This is it. Thanks

Save option disabled - The app is fine as a text editor and is able to open existing txt files, but the Save option is disabled so I cannot create txt files. This is a severly limiting factor. Also, you can only have one txt file open at a time, which is also limiting as I like to take various notes in different windows throughout the day. I found this out when I was testing the open feature and it overwrote the contents in my window (with no way to revert), which were not saved because the save option is disabled. If you only need a text editor for copying/pasting text between applications this may work for you, but otherwise you might want to keep looking.
Works Well for Ssimple Notes and as a Format Remover - Plain Text is simple and works well with Dropbox and OK on iMac, iPad and IPhone. It is not the same as the Plaintext app for iPad or iPhone. Plain Text ($0.99) is a “Simple and Clean text editor and Format remover” for use on computers such as my iMac . I find that Plain Text is very useful when I get formatted text sent to me that does not match that of the newsletter I am working on. I copy the mis-formatted text to Plain Text ( .txt), cut and paste from there to my newsletter and it automatically goes in with the font and size of the insertion point. The .txt file converts bolds, colors, active links to plain, black text. There are cases where you might rather use TextEdit (.rtf) and change font and size manually, but keep the selective bolds etc. The new version of Text Edit will open a text file from the application, but not if you double click on the text document or try to have Quickeys open it with Plain Text selected as the application. If you open a text file from the application and then edit it and save it, it will replace the old version only if you type in the old name on the save (and choose replace). Another feature of Plain Text allows you work “undistracted” using the whole screen. When you open Plain Text to a new document, there is a double headed arrow on the top right. Click that and it goes full screen and you can type away. How do you get out out of full screen? You need to move the cursor up and off the top of the document. A bar will appear with the double-headed arrow icon on the upper right. Click that icon once and you are back to normal.
So far so good - Simple. Straight forward. Great.
Great Little App - Just plain and simple text editor. Easy to use. The pop-ups were annoying until you say “no thanks” or just rate it, but that has nothing to do with its functionality.
Simple and Reliable - What can I say, no frills, simple and reliable.
