Pingbar is a small menu bar app, that constantly checks your connection to a server.

What can I do with it?
– Check your internet connection in a public WiFi hotspot, like your favorite coffee shop. Know immediately when your connection has a problem (and not that site your trying to visit)!
– Use it as a server or service monitor. Check if a certain service on your server is responding normally, like your webserver, mailserver or any other service that responds on a TCP port. Get instantaneous notifications on your desktop, if something’s wrong!

– Custom server and port
– Custom checking interval
– Silent status indication via menu bar icon
– Native eye-catching notifications via OS X notification center
– Great notification control (sound, connection return, annoying mode)
– Automatic launch at login (if you wish)
– Checks the whole connection from you to any server you like
– Works with any open TCP port
– Nearly zero battery consumption!
– Yosemite support (woohoo Dark Mode!)

Note: While the name may suggest that an (ICMP echo) ping is performed, the app actually creates a socket connection to the server/port. ICMP ping may be implemented in future versions.

Release Notes:

This is a minor update for you, but a big one for me! Pingbar has been completely rewritten! It features now much better performance and is ready for some cool new upcoming features. Stay tuned!

In this version you already get:
– Better notification control (sound, connection return, annoying mode)
– Automatic launch at login (if you wish)
– Prevention for false alarms if your computer is yet waking up
– Yosemite support (woohoo Dark Mode)
– And a lot of internal fixes!

If you like Pingbar, please rate it! Or contact me via support, if you have any concerns. Any feedback is highly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Great, but could use a few changes, additions. - I like this! It’s more configurable than another one I was using. LIke the notification part and auto start-up. Maybe I am being picky but the Icon could use some color (maybe blue like the app icon?) and I wish you could set the interval higher than 999 seconds and choose your own alert sound. Again, being picky but it’s a great app! Thanks!

So far, so good. - This will work for me, but only just. I could use more hosts to check, in case one is down, and an ICMP option so I can ping my IPS's gateway. I'm using this to see when my ISP has dropped, not to check on a server.

It’s great! - Works awesome. Fully serves my purpose. However, ability to ping a secondery server would be superb. Thanks for this tool!
