The only one worth getting - Actually, I may not have tried *every* other solution, but none of the others I’ve tried came even close to Photosweeper. I threw a 160Gb Aperture library at it and it didn’t blink. WIth the library on an SSHD, it was amazingly fast at finding - for all practical purposes - all the duplicates. A few minutes, really. (Expect a much longer process if using a disk drive instead of SSHD, but that’s nothing that any program can cut down for you.) At least one of the other popular solutions out there marks duplicates but doesn’t let you see them side by side with all the info you need to make decisions, which Photosweeper does. You can also just let it go to town and delete based on your criteria after you’ve tightened it up enough to feel that you can trust the results. (Pretty important when trying to merge and purge a bunch of old iPhoto/Aperture libraries with about an 80% overlap, like I needed to do.) A lifesaver. Actually, it’s saved the recorded history of everyone in my family, so that’s a bunch of lives.

Doesn’t work with Photos - Kind of weird that this was promoted just as Photos came out, which would lead you to believe it woks with Photos (and in fact it strongly implies it does in their tutorial). It doesn’t, which makes it sort of useless at this point, so I’d strongly recommend waiting on this purchase, or at least get a trial version and see if will work on your target photo collection first.

Wow! Best clean up tool for photo libraries I’ve ever come across - This tool does a great job of finding duplicates, not just exact duplicates, but photos that have been rotated, resized, or are even just very similar. It also has a great set of default rules for figuring out which image to keep automatically, which can save hours. But what most impressed me about this app, is how fast it is! I have two very large libraries of photos, about 45K in iCloud Photo Library, and another 60K or so in Lightroom. Any operation that involves scanning so many photos usually can bring either of those apps to a crawl, sometimes waiting days for an operation to complete (even when the entire library is on SSD). But PhotoSweeper just rips through those thousands of files so fast, it’s unreal. I think Apple and Adobe could maybe learn a few things from this software, I was totally not expecting this kind of performance from a third party app.

Good at finding duplicates, but issues w/Apple Photos - I was able to find the duplicates using photos within folders and move the duplicates to the trash or other photos. However, when I tried to use the delete feature for Apple Photos the program said it would move the photos into a trash folder on Apple Photos. It didn’t move any of the photos as they’re still in my library. Please fix! Or else this is a completely useless app for me.

Really works! - I have a rather large iPhoto library of ~30k pictures, and almost two thousand of them were duplicates. I found them with this software in two passes. On the first, I used “exact match” and it found the “real” duplicates. I spot checked which ones it marked for deletion, and it was never wrong. In the next pass, I had it search for close matches. This one was more labor intensive - I manually checked 1400 pairs of images, and picked the best one between the two shown using the thoughtfully implemented keyboard shortcuts (read the manual!). This took a few hours, but as a result, my library is a bit less cluttered and more enjoyable to view on slideshow. Totally worth it!

Whoosh! - Photosweeper took about 2 minutes to find about 10,000 exact duplicates out of 80,000 photos, and reduced 155Gb to 134Gb. Excellent!

PhotoSweeper is incredible! - My photo library became corrupted by backing it up with defective backup software which created 68,000 duplicates with only 13,000 originals. I had 70 duplicates of one photo! I ran side-by-side comparisons and used ‘exact duplicate’ to compare my photos. PhotoSweeper went through all photos and gave me a listing of each photo and its duplicates to review. One photo was marked for keeping while all the duplicates were marked for possible deletion (only if you choose automark). I looked at the duplicates and the jpeg number was the exact same jpeg for all duplicates. I then chose to move the photos to PhotoSweeper trash. So, yes, PhotoSweeper did its job. I could never have gone through all 79,000 photos and found 68,000 duplicates and kept my sanity. And all this for $9.99. Incredible app and incredible support. Emailed support and received an answer in 10 minutes. Highly recommended!
