The only one worth getting - Actually, I may not have tried *every* other solution, but none of the others I’ve tried came even close to Photosweeper. I threw a 160Gb Aperture library at it and it didn’t blink. WIth the library on an SSHD, it was amazingly fast at finding - for all practical purposes - all the duplicates. A few minutes, really. (Expect a much longer process if using a disk drive instead of SSHD, but that’s nothing that any program can cut down for you.) At least one of the other popular solutions out there marks duplicates but doesn’t let you see them side by side with all the info you need to make decisions, which Photosweeper does. You can also just let it go to town and delete based on your criteria after you’ve tightened it up enough to feel that you can trust the results. (Pretty important when trying to merge and purge a bunch of old iPhoto/Aperture libraries with about an 80% overlap, like I needed to do.) A lifesaver. Actually, it’s saved the recorded history of everyone in my family, so that’s a bunch of lives.

Doesn’t work with Photos - Kind of weird that this was promoted just as Photos came out, which would lead you to believe it woks with Photos (and in fact it strongly implies it does in their tutorial). It doesn’t, which makes it sort of useless at this point, so I’d strongly recommend waiting on this purchase, or at least get a trial version and see if will work on your target photo collection first.

Great for cleaning Google Photos duplicates - I was a user of Picasa Web, Apple Photos and Google Photos and eventually had lots of duplicates show up in my Google Photos account. I was able to install Google Backup and Sync to synchronize all of my Google Photos account onto my harddrive. Then I used this great program to scan my Google Photos folder on my harddrive to find the duplicates. I was able to tweak it to just the right amount of similarity detection such that I was able to go through tens of thousands of images, using PhotoSweeper, in about two hours. I removed about a few thousand duplicates, which I never could or would have done manually. This program worked great!

Never worked - This new update is just like the past updates, it does not work. It seems it worked for 41 people , but not for 3. I have 900,000 photos, which span, 20 years. 12 hours into the process, its still loading, and it seems when the screen goes out it stops working. I do not late my mac sleep. So when 18 hours is past and its still only 1/4 of the way loaded. This version like the others is a fail. You can’t trust it will handle the photos correctly. IPhoto was not Apples greatest program/app. It handles photos without any send of intelligence. This app, attempts to fix that, but again, never seems to work. Maybe if you have 100 photos, it works, but I have 900,000 and thats seems to be to many. Tech support does not reply. Hence , this review.

Simply stellar - We had photos on three different computers. A couple of years ago I consolidated all of them to one computer, but the process created a huge number of duplicates. With 70,000 photos in the library, this was a problem. Enter photosweeper. Using the strictest possible settings it removed 3500 duplicates in a matter of minutes. Now I can relax the settings and find the similar photos with different names, different sizes, etc. This process takes longer because it requires my involvement, but it’s still vastly better than doing it by hand. If you have a lot of photos to sort through, this app is a massive timesaver. This app is totally worth the money. Bravo!
