Patina® is the highest rated Microsoft® Paint replacement app in the Mac App Store.
Tools and color management in Patina are simple and intuitive.
You can use Patina to sketch an idea, draw a diagram, illustrate a concept, or paint a picture.
The screen shots here showcase the type of artwork you can do in Patina, but Patina is great for all kinds of other personal and work purposes too.
Patina can even be used as a basic image management tool for cropping, rotating, resizing, and saving photos as a different file type. (If you also have a Windows computer, check out our Sizester image resizing app at sizester.com.)
As a Mac user accustomed to attractive, well-designed software, you'll appreciate Patina's elegant interface and user-friendly design.
If you've used Microsoft Paint before, you'll find that Patina is as simple to use as Paint, if not simpler, and has additional really useful features, including rotation of objects at any angle, transparent image saving, opening/importing of PDF, AI, and PSD files, and more.
Unlike most other Paint-like apps that are derivations of an open source program, Patina was designed and built from scratch in the US with great care and attention to detail to be as easy to use as possible.
We're confident that you'll find Patina to be the best simple painting, drawing, and sketching app in the Mac App Store.
Be sure to check out the tutorial screen in the app (go to the Patina menu, then click on "Show Tutorial") and the demo video on patinaapp.com (note that the demo video is from an earlier version of the app and doesn't include all current features).
Read the FAQs on our support page patinaapp.com/support if you want to learn about advanced features, such as transparent background, controlling rotation in fixed increments, smooth edges (anti-aliasing), smooth resizing (interpolation), alpha color blending, DPI settings, and more.
Contact us at [email protected] if you cannot figure out how to do something.
Please note that Patina is not a vector app, does not have layers, and does not allow you to manipulate already drawn objects in the same way that you can in a layout app like Pages or in a presentation app like Keynote or PowerPoint.
If you have a comment or suggestion, please email us at [email protected] We greatly value and appreciate your input. Some new features are the direct result of feedback from users.
Patina is Retina optimized and works great with all versions of OS X starting with 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and including macOS Sierra.
If you like Patina, we really appreciate you letting other Mac users know about the quality of the app by leaving a rating in the Mac App Store for this current version, and writing a review if you have time. We offer Patina at a low price to make it available to as many people as possible, and in order to support our ongoing efforts to continually improve the app, it's really helpful if our users can rate it. Thank you for taking a moment to do that for us!
Patina is crafted with care in California and Washington.

Patuna - SIMPLE yet functional
Great simple application - I love using this application for editing different icons and for drawing simple pictures for my papers and presentations.
Great app - This is a simple but does everything you need app. If you have used Microsoft Paint in past this will be great transition to this for Mac users.
Perfect paint like app - I own and use Photoshop a lot. But sometimes you just don’t need an aircraft carrier. A nice little ski boat will do. Patina is simple, opens in less than a second and is easy on system resources. I can open Patina and be done with some of my small paste, crop, copy / paste type tasks while PS is just finishing loading. Happy to have found the app!
As bad as MS Paint was - I should have thought this one through better. Their description places this app as a parallel to MS Paint. And that pretty well sums it up. This app is just as bad as MS Paint was the lst time I used it over a decade ago. Yep, it’s that bad. The old adage is true, you get what you pay for (this one's aptly priced at $3). Should I really have expected anything more? …In response to the developer’s comments below... First of all, I do appreciate their thoughtful reply to my review. That shows a good eye for business. I agree with their statement that the app is “Basic”. It is BASIC. I was intrigued by its simplicity. But after trying it, I find to too basic to be useful. The app doesn’t have a proper “select” function. Adjusting line thickness, color, etc, after an object has been drawn is awkward. I think this app might be suitable for children to play with. But from what I can see, it wouldn’t serve for anything more than the simplest line doodling.
