Rate of Innovation Astounding - I think what keeps Readdle very compelling is their ability to adapt and rapidly release new product features. I’ve already sent feedback for them to remember page position and they have quickly implemented that. Now I’ve suggested automatically saving page position across devices and to have an option to get rid of the highlighting color window and hopefully they will implement that soon. As a power PDF user, this product is quickly becoming more powerful than Adobe Acrobat Professional at a fraction of the price. With continued improvements I imagine that in a few months it will be the standard for PDFs on the Mac as PDF Expert has become on the iOS platform. Great job Readdle team and I hope you continue to improve the product rapidly as you have been thus far!

Not worth $20 - Yes, it scrolls smoothly. No better or worse than Preview. Yes, it can annotate PDFs, slightly better than preview (and that’s an emphatic qualification). But this app still doesn’t feel like it justifies its own existence, even for annotations. Connected to a Wacom tablet, it doesn’t detect stylus pressure - and when the pen is selected, a gigantic menu slides out of the right hand side obscuring the PDF document - making this app seem a bit like it promised much more than it was ready to deliver. If you want an application to highlight some text - great. This is the $20 app for you. But if you actually need to annotate something, especially with any kind of professional finesse, I’m sorry but this is not the app you’re looking for.

Why does this app crash all the time - For the most part, the app is real good. But based on the reviews of how great it is, I constantly get these errors saying the file is corrupted. This always scares you thinking that the file is corrupt. Of course, it’s never corrupted. And you have to close down everything and restart the app back up again and bring your documents back to where they were. Am I the only person getting this? I get this all the time and have been getting this from day one. Why is this not fixed? It’s a completely annoying thing and something that’s totally unacceptable, based on it’s praise for “2015 App of the Year”. This is amateur hour stuff and shouldn’t be in software of this level. If I didn’t experience this regularly, I would probably give you five stars. But this is a totally annoying and unacceptable thing, I can’t give you more than three stars.

5 Star App. Must have for anyone who values their time! - Wow! I have had this app now for about 1 year (along with every other Readdle application). My profession being a Sales Consultant for Heating & Air conditioning… I was endlessly searching for something to use for work to send, edit, sign proposals… pretty much anything needed to become more efficient and look better than the competition when being with a customer. PDF expert is everything you need, when you need it to turn your paper into a fully functional PDF and 100% customize it anyway you want to! It is a NO-BRAINER!!!

it’s really great but lacks a full screen presentation mode - I love it’s night theme feature - in case you want to read long PDFs and cause minimal eyestrain. But it’s not great for presenting PDFs to client - the menu bar still shows up when entering full screen mode. In this case Preview is better. Also Preview still seems zippier than PDF Expert, but the last update made it less laggy, so it’s acceptable now.

Fast handling of large files - As part of my work, I have to review large volumes of scanned medical records. I decided to purchase a copy of PDF Expert after it won my unofficial comparison between v2.2, a competing program by Smile Software, Adobe’s free reader, and Apple’s Preview app. The file i used for testing was 6800+ pages (about 286 MB), and PDF expert was definitely the fastest and smoothest, and helped me to quickly move through the file, extract hundreds/thousands of pages to create more manageable pieces, and rotate hundreds of landscape-oriented pages into position for easy review. While it would be even better with OCR capability, the speed and ease of use made it the winner for me. Please note that much of my review work is done on a 2009(!) Core 2 Duo based iMac with 8GB of RAM, running the latest version of the OS. Even on this vintage hardware, performance is excellent.

Best PDF app I - I use this app regularly, both on the Mac and on my iPad. As a researcher, I work a lot of with PDF files, primarily journal articles. The strong suit of this program is the capability to add comments to the files, to synch this between Mac and iPad, and to save the file with the comments. I use my iCloud storage for this purpose. Some weakness remaining are a) I really miss a drag-and-drop capability to move the PDF file by dragging the file icon in the window title, b) I have been getting "file corrupted" errors for files that open that open fine with other PDF readers, and c) downloading files from iClould on the iPad is sometimes extremely slow to the point of being unusable.
