***New users: Thanks for choosing the new OmmWriter Gaia, and welcome to the family!***
A wise man once said: “We are all at the mercy of our wild monkey minds. Incessantly swinging from branch to branch”. With multiple windows and applications all vying for our attention, we have sadly adapted our working habits to that of the computer and not the other way around.
OmmWriter is a humble attempt to recapture what technology has snatched away from us today: our capacity to concentrate.
OmmWriter is a tool that makes writing a pleasure again, allowing users to be alone with their thoughts; to concentrate and to write without distractions. More than a word processor, OmmWriter is a place to get inspired.
The secret to OmmWriter lies in its simplicity and apparent lack of functionality. OmmWriter Gaia pays special attention to audio and visual effects that contribute to the overall writing experience. We have spent a considerable amount of research time and effort in the audio-visual experience to promote and enhance creativity. OmmWriter is the fruit of this investigation with new dynamic backgrounds employing Chroma therapy techniques as well as new sound effects. This version, Gaia, is a reflection of its new soothing sound environments and backgrounds inspired by Earth’s natural landscapes. In particular, the nocturnal background, which relaxes your vision (and probably your mood).
If you are a scriptwriter, blogger, journalist, copywriter, poet or just someone who enjoys writing, welcome back to concentrating.

My fav app - This app is great, but WHY would you get rid of all the old good ambient sounds? They replaced them with annoying tracks, they should keep all the music.
A great idea gone wrong. Don't buy version 1.3. - When I first found Ommwriter Dana II, I thought I had found the perfect writing software. I am really shocked at how bad this new version is. I wished I had NOT upgraded. There is tons of static on the music tracks that distract you from your writing. Plus the new music suddenly jumps into melodies that are distracting and draw attention to themselves in uncreative ways. Prior to upgrade the music was tonal and didn't interfere with creativity. Now it does to a terrible degree. I had to shut it off. I ended up going back to MS Word. I was totally wowed by this program, but this new upgrade is a step backward and over a cliff -- yes, it's that bad. I cannot recommend this software to anyone in it's current state. Indeed, it is a waste of your money. Such a shame, it was a brilliant idea. Now, it's junk.
More Reviews for Current Version
Forced to create an account (NO LONGER - SEE UPDATE #2) - UPDATE #2: I’m very pleased to say that the developer has listened to the user base and removed the mandatory account creation. It gives me hope when companies buck the trend to collect more data (or open the door for this data collection), and I’m more than happy to give the program a five-star rating now that they have removed this requirement. UPDATE #1: They now mention the registration requirement in the “what’s new” release notes, but the reasons they give aren’t great in my opinion. Please, just make the registration optional - I’m not going to make an account for an app I purchased years ago and so the money I originally paid for is otherwise a waste. If you need more income, make a paid upgrade version - it’s so much better than giving up more data in this day and age. I considered the old version a five-star program for what it was, but the new update appears to force the creation of an account to continue to use the software. These types of tactics really bother me when they're for software I’ve already paid for, so I’m giving it one star until they remove that requirement. The account creation is not even mentioned in the "what’s new" notes. Good grief.
Great app; negative reviews are outdated! - I highly recommend this app, and would suggest not to listen to the one star ratings posted here, because most of them are from a previous update that is now irrelevent. The app no longer requires you make an account, which seems to be the main complaint among users. This app is really great. I love the different themes, music, fonts, etc. that you can choose from. It also works way better than the free online version, so I think the seven bucks is worth it. It’s easy to use, and accomplishes exactly what I wanted from it: a calm, simple platform that helps me focus on writing without distractions. A very pleasant and peaceful place to write.
Latest Update Fixes People’s Biggest Issue - This developer listens to His customers! Thanks for the latest update!
Happy Again - It took a bit longer than it probably should have, but registration is no longer forced and can be permanently hidden. The program is now just as lovely as it ever was. Highly recommended.
Great App, Deserves Better Users - Wow, people get so entitled when it comes to software and apps. Take OmmWriter: a great app that does exactly what it promises to, does it well, is still supported and updated after so many years, and even ***lets users choose how much they pay for it*** (if you purchase directly from their site, that is) — yet is being pummelled with one-star reviews. What did they do to deserve such nasty pushback? Did they break the app? Did they remove key features (or in this case, added too many)? Did they start charging a subscription? No, they asked people to register for an account, for the purposes of (in their own words) building community. That’s it. They didn’t even ask to create paid accounts. Just a regular login, just like every other app out there. Yet apparently, this was offensive enough to overlook all the other reasons this app is great, and slam the devs (and indie devs, at that!) with one-star ratings, which can turn away potential new users and can seriously affect the devs’ livelihoods. All over being asked to do something every other app asks them to do and only takes 5 seconds to do (if you’re worried about privacy, just use a burner email, which also takes 5 seconds to set up; unless you’re too lazy and entitled to spend those 10 extra seconds). If it’s not just about the (trivially minor) inconvenience and you really feel registering is a big deal (if that’s true, I can only think of one word to describe you: SAD!), only knock off a star, or better yet, reach out to the devs BEFORE skewing their rankings. Unbelievable… Anyway, ignore the entitled whiners who posted 1-star reviews. This is a great app for when you need to just zone out and get your thoughts on paper (well, really onto the screen, but whatever) without getting distracted by notifications, other apps, or the Internet. It also looks gorgeous, and the soundscapes are great for filtering out background noise. I can’t recommend it enough!
