Obtract is a Mac app designed to track and reduce your digital distractions.

When you run the app, it monitors the your activities and generates data visualizations to better understand and investigate where your time is going. You can mark activities as being either productive or distracting. As you spend more time on the distracting activities, Obtract creates increasingly complex obstacles in the form of mazes and puzzles to make those activities harder to access. You can also mark your progress throughout the day by creating milestones.

obtract - I thought this would be a good way to keep myself on task while also having fun with the mazes when i wanted to goof off but the mazes would pop up when i was actually doing work and prevent me from going on websites i needed to go on for homework and such. i also could not figure out how to move the red dot in the maze making thm impossible to figure out. I don't recomend this app.

Nice idea… doesn't work - I really like the idea behind this. I have firefox set up to be my time-wasting browser. I have app-tabbed every time wasting site known to man, and I could spend days just clicking back and forth and hitting the refresh button and not run out of things to read, see, or do. The problem? I can't stop. I click onto Firefox "for a few minutes" and 3 hours later, I'm like, "What happened to the rest of my day??" Obtract sounded like the perfect solution. Spend more than 5 minutes and it makes you do a puzzle to keep going. Great! So I did productive things for 3 hours and then clicked into my eternal time-waster and the sidebar menu popped out letting me know that I Was Wasting Time! So far so good. But then… an hour later, nothing had happened. Wat?! I clicked onto the Obtract icon and it was tracking everything I was doing. It was completely aware that I had been Wasting Time for an hour. So I clicked back into Firefox and NOW the puzzle popped up. So I did the puzzle for 5 more minutes of time-wastey goodness and went to Reddit - the black hole of time. Half an hour later… nothing from Obtract. I'm sad that this doesn't work, it would have been super useful. Unfortunately, it doesn't pop up a puzzle unless you specifically click outside of your time-waster and back into it. Also, it's not supported - no contact info anywhere. Lame.

Good idea, bad implementation - It's a good idea, but the user interface for the activities makes them to hard to use.
