NoteTaker™ for OS X, first introduced in 2002, is a third generation information processor for individuals. NoteTaker combines the power of the built-in outliner with a visually rich notebook interface for organizing information and creating personal notebooks.
NoteTaker is foremost a personal note and idea organizer. You can make a list, create an outline or jot down an idea. But NoteTaker scales with your needs, enabling you to add, change, and organize your information as needed, no matter what form it takes - lists, outlines, paragraphs of rich text, audio, video, or even embedded live web content and flash animation, from one page to hundreds of pages.
NoteTaker's visual metaphor is a rich "spiral" notebook pages with section tabs. You can create your own custom notebooks, from basic outlines and checklists to complex reports and project binders.
Use it to communicate ideas. Organize personal information for fast retrieval. Keep a project or daily journal. Take notes in meetings and record synchronized audio lectures. Browse and clip web information to your notebook. Create a project plan or syllabus. Write a book! Used by thousands of individuals, students, teachers and other professionals worldwide, NoteTaker is software you'll use every single day.
NoteTaker now includes personal real-time sharing, a feature previously exclusive to AquaMinds NoteShare™. Instantly share a notebook, in a few easy clicks, with family members on other Macs at home, or read your shared notebooks from your iPhone or iPad while at home or on the road using NoteShare Mobile Viewer.

Awesomeness... - I have Circus Ponies' Notebook and I just kept wishing something would come along that would actually work, and by that i mean that it would actually have some notion of being a smart app. The Circus Ponies app would often shut off when recording audio lectures in class on a brand new 2011 MacBook Pro. Not only that, but it just felt clunky and stupid. For all the hype, it seemed too limiting. Then, I found this app. I only purchased it because I had $100 credit to spend in the app store, a nice gift from Apple for buying my Mac. This app allows for surfing the web within the app which is neat. You can import any type of document, url, video, etc., and, of course, you can record your audio notes. And trust me when I say it records smoothly. I actually recorded most of a four hour class with the largest recorded section being appx. two hours… then the gods heard someone and we finally got a pee-break. Anyhow, this app is much smarter.
DOES NOT WORK ON CURRENT MACS! - I had to buy this to try to rescue old files from the computer of a friend who had died. It will not start at all on a Mac running Yosemite. The smallest problem: that’s $25 wasted. And don’t try Customer Support—there’s nobody there.

BEST company support, beats any product on the market! - I have used this product since 2005. Aquaminds has provided, and consistently updated, the best notebook product available. Though no means the biggest, they have never lost their enthusiasm for the product NOR for the customer. While the OSX version underlying this product has gone through many changes, which for any developer can provide a guarantee of a palette of headaches, the folks at Aquaminds have solicited feedback, followed through on issues, and their support is remarkably timely. As a product, it is unbelievably deep in features, but remains far more flexible than the average Apple Corp. turnout. And yet, it remains “conversational” with all the rest, allowing for easy sharing, both to and from the Notebook, with Mail, or Safari, or files created by word processors, image managers and document readers… and regardless of which platform (Apple, Microsoft or Linux). Thanks to all at Aquaminds. There is no software that performs flawlessly, but there are few software companies that stand behind their products and customers like Aquaminds does.
Disappearing text - I’m also having the problem with disappearing text. For me, it happens when I paste images into my notebooks (the problem usually happens when I paste the second image on a page). It is really a pain—I have to toggle between pages to get the text and images to reappear. Hoping it will be fixed soon. Earlier version didn’t have this problem. Otherwise I’m very happy with the app.
Great App! - I've been using it for a couple of year. Its a great app for many different uses. I'm using it for notes, studies, journal, business agenda…. I also use it for our small busines as a second way to keep all my payments and billings…. for example, in one of my notetaker' file I have 12 sections (one for each month…) in each section I have pages for each day of the month where I can have my TO DO, Payment schedule, income schedule, billings, and then I can check it…and also insert the online bank receipt, transaction details…etc. To search and retrieve those informations its easy and fast. Love it so far!!!
Most flexible, powerful outline/notetaking program I’ve found - Although other programs are more highly touted and glitzier, such as Evernote, Microsoft’s OneNote, and OmniOutliner, none of them can hold a candle to NoteTaker in terms of their functionality and power. None of them can both import and edit documents of other types. Indeed, many other note-taking programs cannot import other file types at all. Sure, they can add them as links, but not as fungible text. NoteTaker can. And NoteTaker can export its product into various document types, such as RTF, OPML, DOC, and comma-delimited, which means that if you decide you want to transport your file to another program, you can (as long as that other program will open anything else but its own file type—their limitation, not NoteTaker’s). Furthermore, if you just compare the drop-down menus for each of these programs, or look at the preferences, you can see how many more options one has in NoteTaker, from hopping through the document, to moving text around in the document, to searching capabilities, to creating summary pages, to index searches, to selecting what part of the page one wants to print or display in PDF. For instance, I can make an outline for colleagues that I’ll want to export to PDF but without the outlining dots. NoteTaker does that. I can also go to the index and scan all instances of a specific term or idea and find every instance, across all of the pages, see them in their context, and click on the one I want to visit. I can choose whatever font I want for my inserted text, even defining the style for that type of text. The list of what I can do with this program, compared to what I can do with any other note-taking program out there, even programs that cost almost double (or have, as EverNote does, an annual subscription fee), is vast. The downside of the program is that it is not developed as quickly as others, and has some frustrating glitches. (Yes, text can sometimes disappear, until one clicks away. Yes, dropping and dragging text into other pages isn’t as perfectly developed as I might want.) But these are small inconveniences given the power of the program. Until NoteTaker stops working or someone comes up with something better (OmniOutliner recently announced it had added a full-screen feature—something long a part of NoteTaker—so one can see how far behind even they are), I’m sticking with NoteTaker, and I hope people explore it more deeply, look past the glitz of other programs, and see NoteTaker for the truly impressive program it is. Oh, and yes, it does work with OS X 10.11.3, the version I’m currently working in. I’d recommend this program especially highly for scholars and researchers, people who want to make complex connections across various texts and borrow from texts (and edit them) that they’ve composed in other programs. For $25, all this functionality, even with the limitations, is a bargain, crushing programs like OneNote, to my mind.
Outline entries disappear while typing. Very annoying! - I have the current version of Notetaker for OSX (3.2.1). There is an annoying problem where the contents of an outline entry you are working on suddenly vanishes from the screen! There is also a related problem: when typing in an entry field, what you are typing spills outside the entry box and into the next box below. Both problems make it impossible to see what you are typing. The only way to make the text display properly is to flip to another page of the notebook, then back again. Of course, flipping back and forth between pages everytime you want to add a new outline entry gets tedious pretty quick. It makes Notetaker almost unusable. Aquaminds claims there is a workaround: “set the Zoom level to 100%”. But I have done that and the problem remains! I recommend against purchasing this product until Aquaminds fixes the problem. Or use an earlier version if you can.
