Now it’s OneNote! And it’s great. - I am extremely happy with the latest update to One Note for Mac. As a person who’s been using One Note on Windows, Mac, and iOS, I was initially frustrated with the early version of One Note released on Apple devices. Inserting files and opening files inserted into OneNote pages is where I found so much value in organizing my work with One Note. Initially, these features were missing on the Mac and iOS version, which complicated and limited my use of OneNote. Now, finally, I can move from one device to another, and MS OneNote is MS OneNote everywhere. I no longer feel like I’m a victim of corporate rivalry instead of a Microsoft customer who also happens to be an Apple customer. If this is a sign of things to come with the next version of MS Office, then I will gladly join the Office365/onedrive universe and merge it with my Mac/IOS/Apple universe. I’m a best of all worlds kind of guy. Thanks, Microsoft. Great product. Certainly amazing value. Other folks out there: This is THE multi platform app to put all of your notes and artifacts for all of your projects in one very usable space and share them (via the cloud) with others collaboratively. Even if you’re only using it yourself, it’s an amazing app. I highly recommend it!!

Great on Windows, Crippled on Mac - I am an enormous fan of the Windows version of OneNote. It has served me well in a number of roles over the past five years or so. In a previous job, I had over 30,000 individual cases documented and archived in a OneNote file. Unfortunately, Microsoft has elected to make the Mac version completely reliant on Office 365/OneDrive, their cloud platform. This denies Mac users the opportunity to access OneNote files created on the Windows version, as well as the ability to create and store your files locally. All data input into this program has to be entrusted into Microsoft’s cloud. This raises major privacy concerns, and makes the use of this program outright illegal in certain industries. As a result, this program is coming off my Mac until Microsoft resolves this. Yes, I know it’s free software, but I’d gladly pay for a version that would open the files I use every day.

Former Evernote user - I’m a big note taker. I had nearly 500 notes in Evernote but I was getting tired of the best features and access to all of my devices being locked behind a paywall. I also happen to be pretty deep into MS’s ecosystem (OneDrive, Groove, etc) so I figured that I should try their note app too. Glad I did! All of the best features are available for free, syncs perfectly across all of my devices AND the “draw” feature works beautifully with my iPad Pro’s pencil. Nice work MS, keep it up.

Upgraded Mac Version Removed Tabbed Format - current version review The upgrade removed the tabbed notebook view at top and made everything in the left panels which you have to expand and condense while moving across notes. It has broken the thing I loved most about OneNote where there was a consistent layout for any device - OS X, Windows 10, ios app, etc. where I am constantly updating or reviewing One Note information. I tried going to support and they indicated I could switch back, but all instructions failed. They then said maybe they were returning the ability to turn back. I’ve tried with each subsequent update to see and it the original format has not returned. Please fix this and dont’ make workflow changes to one part of devices and not others. ******** old review Most like the simplicity - ease of use - consistent layout in all devices - online web, OSx app, iOS app. Not as feature rich as EN yet, but meets my need very well.

Lacks basic font formatting abilities - If you care at all about being able to format with different fonts I suggest avoiding OneNote. Every single time you create a new line on any note it will revert back to the default font (Calibri). I was sure I must be missing something but a short search found that it’s been an issue for a very long time that MS doesn’t seem to have any interest in fixing. Having to use tricks (starting in the previous line) or constantly having to select all and format to use anything but the default font is something I consider a huge deal breaker. I’m suprized more people aren’t bothered by this.

Excellent app for keeping notes organized - I was an Evernote user before I discovered Microsoft OneNote—and I’m not going back. This app is much more intuitive and organizing notes is quick and efficient. The web clipping function works perfectly too. It seems to work a bit slowly on my Mac but each update improves that. Great app!

Who would have thought! - Who would have thought Microsoft would have one of the best Mac Apps! Simply incredible. Sorry Evernote. Tough world out there. I'll be back if Microsoft does me wrong, but for now, they are killing it with this app.
