Well done. - Nice work - simple, functional, not overblown. Like you'd expect from a native Apple app.

Doesn’t work with USB microphone sources - The app is simple to use, but it doesn’t handle muting and unmuting a microphone connected via USB. Although the app does seem to toggle between Mute and Unmute modes with a USB mic when I press the keyboard shortcut, the icon in the status bar doesn’t change and I can still hear the mic coming through the computer.
Very nice execution - This app does exactly what I was expecting an app to do when I began my search: simple mute/unmute from the system tray. The only piece of feedback I have is that it says “Recording” when the mic is unmuted. I don’t think that is the correct word to use because, as far as I know, no audio is being saved to disk. I think you should say “live” or “mic on” instead of “recording” if indeed you are not saving what the mic is picking up.
Great, light, simple - Does exactly what I need. No un-necessary complication. Prevents other software from unmuting you, on, say, a conference call when you need to have a frank, offline, discussion. Or shoo your cat. Wish list - a light colored icon scheme for dark OS X system preferences.
must have, but not flawless - I gave this 4 stars only because it seems to have issues not working on startup - and it seems to insist on starting on startup even if you uncheck it and remove it from the login items. It will seem to not work, but if I quit the application and then start it up again, it will work. Its a great app, and I cant find anything better, so dont let the bugs deter you. This makes using conferencing software like Webex or GoToMeeting bearable to easily mute with keyboard shortcuts rather than the interface. Its worked with USB mics, Bluetooth mics, and 3.5mm mics - as long as you remember to quit the application and restart it before you need to use it.
