A Suggestion for Perfection - This is probably the best word processor for Mac. However, some features are missing. The most important problem is keyboard shortcuts. Also not all of the actions are accessible from the menu. For example I can't set a shortcut for "subscript" because it's not accessible via the menu bar. Solving this problem definitely will increase the writer speed. The second problem is lack of good templates. Other word processors have a lot of gorgeous templates that makes it much easier for the user to create a document.
Dissapointing - I searched on the Mellel site, and other sites, to find out what was missing from Mellel Lite. All they say is:It's the same "except for a handful of expert options." Well that's useless, and made me wonder what they are hiding. As I found out, a lot. Being unable to find any specific info; I decided to take a chance. I've used Mellel before, and it works well. Quirky, and odd, but works. I'm regretting that decision. I now have what is essentially a non-standard TextEdit. (making a point) What is missing? 1. TOC - Table of Contents creation is not supported. Full Version or separate add-on. ($7) 2. Cross Referencing - Nope! that's Full Version or an add-on, too. ($7) 3. Bibliography - Full version only. ($20) Those are the 3 reasons you buy Mellel; and they are NOT in the "lite" version. I understand selling a lite version. Not everyone needs TOC, Bibliography, etc… The problem is that Mellel is known for those features; not it's "elegant" interface (its not), it's ease of use (not easy to use), or it's layout functionality (again, not it's strong point); it's known for everything they left out. Quite frankly I feel the company has been dishonest in how it's dealing with this version. Mellel is good at what it does, most of it. They just need to be more forthcoming about what you are actually buying.
