For OS-X systems past 10.8 an update of this application has been made, called BR-Renamer. While offering the same functionality it provides more features.
This utility allows you to change a lot of file names in one editing session. It displays the file names you select in an editor window. After you finish editing it applies all changes in one go. The original names remain visible while you edit the new names. Navigation between file names is done by using the arrow keys (or mouse clicks).

Only slightly better than re-naming in Finder... - I got this thinking it was like programs I've used in the past, to batch-rename, search and replace, etc. but that is not the case with this very simple app. It basically lets you highlight one title after another, eliminating the step in finder to hit the return key first, or click and wait. So it's OKAY, but come on, you can't even use the TAB key to select the next file? This is pretty lame right now.. I highly recommend Renamer 4.0 (Previously called Renamer4Mac). It's worth the $20.
Not that bad - I work with page files at work, and when we upgraded computers, we lost a program we used to use. What I really like about this app is bypassing that extra step in Finder to rename a file. I would like to see a function added to be able to batch rename.
Actually I give it 3.5 stars - I had to add .jpg extensions to multiple photo files, problem was when I used .jpg it changed to .jgg for the extension, but when I changed it to .jpeg it worked like a charm, so based on that experience I loved it, BUT I wish I could use the Tab button to go to the next line. If they fix that I would have given this app 4 stars.
