Macchiato is a simple plain text editor with a twist. Modeled after TextEdit's plain text mode, the editor is a chrome-less blank canvas. However, it is built from the ground up for writing Markdown prose—and, as such, it will format Markdown text as you write it. Macchiato will not *parse* your Markdown. Rather, it will *stylize* your Markdown source.
### Lion ###
Macchiato is a first-class citizen on Mac OS X Lion, and embraces all of the new Lion features:

* Auto-saving: your work is always safe.
* Version history: go back in time, if you screw up.
- Typographical themes.
- Color themes.
- Markup characters are now subdued, making for a more natural reading experience.
- Plain text support.
- Improved user interface.
- Supports Universal Markdown Type Identifier.
- Many bug fixes and performance improvements.
Most Helpful Reviews
Simple & Intuitive, the way an app should be! - The Markdown syntax was created to be "easy-to-read" (quote John Gruber). Though Markdown achieves this goal, Macchiato has brought it a step further – it styles your Markdown source as you type it! This intuitive editing method allows its writers to view their code and style at the same time, in the same window. All other editors, as far as I know, only allow you to see one at a time, or forces you to open two views. Goodbye, clutter! Great first release. To bring it to the next level, perhaps the users should have control over the max width of the window. The Format menu works nicely, though it'd be even nicer if cmd-B would unbold text that has already been bolded. I'll keep an eye out for updates!
No Unicode Support! - I spent $20 and found I couldn't type Chinese in the app. Please fix this issue ASAP, then it would be a 5-star app!

Pumped! - Awesome little app, I've been waiting for something like this for a while.
Ease of Use Limited - Cool Idea: "stylize" markdown text. Why? In one glance, I could see how the markdown modifiers changed the plaintext. This is a differentiator. However, the implementation is sub-par. Additionally, I found printing - yes, regular printing - impossible. As in, it didn't work/function properly (or at all). This program requires more bug fixes and perfomance improvements. Additionally, I would welcome more beautiful stylization. At this time, I would say buyer beware. ---- This app massively needs an update or should just GO AWAY!
