MacWorld •••• (4 stars!) : Jettison automatically ejects external disks before your Mac sleeps and remounts them when it wakes. ** PLEASE TRY THE DEMO ON OUR WEBSITE TO MAKE SURE JETTISON WORKS WITH YOUR DISKS **
Simplify those last few seconds when you grab your MacBook and run out the door. Just close the lid and Jettison will automatically eject your backup drive, iPod, or whatever is connected so you can safely unplug it. Say goodbye to "disk was not ejected properly" errors and waking your computer back up because you forgot to eject everything.
Jettison even makes sure that Time Machine backups and file server volumes are properly shut down before they're removed. Your backups and shared files are safe and sound.
And what if you decide not to leave, and open your MacBook back up? Jettison will check to see if your drives are still connected and will mount them back on the Desktop if they're there.
Corrected issues with Mac OS 10.8. Please see our website for a demo version, additional updates and SD card support.

Very Good, but Re-Mounting Would Be Nice - This app does what it says it will do and is very helpful. Like another reviewer (of a previous version) said, it would be nice if Jettison would re-mount the disk if it hasn’t been unplugged from the computer. It is a slight hassle to unplug and re-plug the drive, or open Disk Utility and remount the disk manually. Other than that minor issue, however, very helpful app.
Does Not Do As Advertised - I bought this because I’m sick and tired of getting the “Did not eject properly” messages for the 2 external hard drives hooked up to my iMac. I’ve had this program running for over a week and still get those messages every time my iMac goes to sleep which means it is not working! If I’m doing something wrong, please tell me, and I will change my review. Otherwise, this was a complete waste of money.

There's an upgrade and it improves things - Evidently you can upgrade from 1.24 to 1.3 via their website. From the FAQ: > I bought Jettison through the Mac App Store. Can I upgrade directly from your web site? > > Yes, just download the latest version of Jettison here. > > Before copying the new version to your Applications folder, however, please double-click it to run it once directly from the disk image. Jettison will make a > copy of your App Store receipt (which is embedded in the Jettison application that you downloaded from the Mac App Store). You can then copy Jettison to > your applications folder, deleting the version that you got from the Mac App Store. This update also allows you to specify options for individual drives. It's not perfect, but it works fairly well. You can choose to INCLUDE specific INTERNAL drives for unmounting (when internal drives are otherwise ignored) and choose to EXCLUDE specific EXTERNAL drives, if you have selected the option to otherwise unmount all external drives. You access this "secret" function by clicking the Jettison icon in your task bar and then holding down the Alt/Option key to reveal the menu option "Preferences with Extras...", then selecting the 4th tab called "Extras" when the preferences box opens up. I think this is a 4-star app, but because of the hoops you have to jump through to get the most-recent functionality, I downgraded it by one star.
Peculiar Behavior with Time Machine Drive - I have used this app for over a year and have decided to go back to manual ejecting. This app has an inconsistent behavior, when using an external time machine drive. At best you get the "did not eject properly" dialog, at worst you get "unable to read" dialog and the time machine disk drive has to be reformatted, all time machine data lost. The annoying thing is that this behavior does not happen all of the time, perhaps one time out of 6 or 7.
Eliminates "Improper ejection" Error Messages - I'm among the mass of Apple users who experience "Improper ejection" error messages almost every morning for my two external USB drives. Having followed this issue for over 2 years in various Apple Forum discussions, no one, including Apple, has come up with a solution for this irritating and sometimes drive damaging issue… until now. As some of you here have already reported, since installing Jettison, I have not seen the infamous "improper ejection" error message. Jettison does, automatically without any effort on my part, exactly what the developer says: "eliminates the hassle of manually ejecting external drives before you put your MacBook to sleep and remounting them when it wakes." By automatically unmounting my two external USB drives each night when my Macbook Pro goes to sleep, Jettison is eliminating the opportunity for Apple's flawed USB power management system to improperly eject my external drives. As soon as my computer wakes up, Jettison quickly remounts the external drives. And, most importantly, Jettison has NOT caused any conflict with my Time Machine backups or my SuperDuper clone backups (three of which are scheduled to run automatically at 1:00am every night). For me, this is another great utility app from St. Clair software. (Default Folder is another "must have" app from this developer)
simple yet effective!! - You saved my life!! I can't tell you how simple this program is yet it fixed this huge headache I was having with my drobo unproperly ejecting every time I put my computer asleep. It has lead to countless hours at the Apple store and on the phone with Drobo support to no end. UNTIL…. I found your simple app. Problem solved! Thanks so much!! Keep up the good work!
Yes! - Where have you been all my life, Jettison?! My Time Machine disk uses an eSATA to USB3 adapter and that disk ungracefully disconnects every time my Macbook falls asleep. Jettison safely ejects it (and all other drives) and everything connects again upon wake. Only four stars because I'd like the option to exclude specific disks, not just drive types.
