Description:

Insight is an elegant system monitor and visualization tool that lives and animates on your desktop. Insight provides system monitoring feedback by animating visualizers that sit discretely on your desktop. Insight pulses, spins, shifts and shimmers like a proverbial ghost in the machine.

Insight moves in response to changes in your system, altering the current visualizers animation and behavior, subtly speeding up, pulsing, and shifting hues, giving you notice of system changes without being overly distracting and drowning you in technical details. Insights visualizers composite beautifully into your desktop, providing a subtle breath of life, movement and mystery to your workspace.

Insight can load user designed themes (visualizers), and many more visualizer designs will be made available soon at no additional cost.

Simply put, Insight is a visual zen koan, the playful intersection of information and design.

beautiful addition to desktop - you have to tweak it a bit to make it fit in best with your background. For me, setting the vignette to half, sensitivity to 1, and purplish colors to match my background made it blend in so that I wasnt staring at it but I always enjoyed seeing it rotating slowly. now the best part: it actually does something very useful! ever wonder what is going on when all of a sudden your computer slows to a crawl? if some webpage is hogging the cpu the "insight" animation starts going nuts and you know things will get sluggish. In the first day of running this app I really started getting a better sense of when my computer is active and what sorts of actions peg the processor. Here's what I would like: more visualizer types. a pref for overall transparency (not just vignette). bottom line: this is a unique app and finds a great balance between usefulness and desktop candy. very much recommended!

Bothered and Bewildered but not Bewitched - Here are a few detailed observations and questions - had sent this to the support site but no answer so far. - Can you provide a link to the video introduction or is there a more detailed help file? When I started the app, it showed a small moving graphical representation and I had zero idea what it meant until I went to the preferences but the short description in the preferences still doesn't give an adequate explanation to make it meaningful. - The Helvetica visualizer is fairly intuitive since it shows a name with real-time numbers but since the other visualizers are purely graphical; how do I relate the size or movement of the colors to some kind of percentage, number, or some state of goodness? In other words, I'm looking at moving shapes and colors but have no idea how to relate it to something useful. - While the Helvetica actually shows something I understand, the arrangement and type of information is not particularly functional. The uptime clock is so tiny I can't see it on my 13" Macbook yet it shows "2CORES" in large font type. Isn't 2 Cores fixed for my system and unless it changes, why does it need to be displayed? Same with the user name, computer name, and wired memory. Seems like there's precious little info to justify the cost of this app. - When switching from Helvetica to the more graphical visualizers, am I looking at the same exact information except it's purely graphical and again, what does the shape, movement, and pace of movement mean? I'm really scratching my head here.

I really like this! - I used to have a different program similar to this long ago (x-1, ?) but when the mac went through its different software iterations, it was no longer supported... Thanks for having this available! The minute I saw it, I wanted it on the desktop. Easy but non overbearing way to see the state of the processor. Can't wait for the next version!
