ImageIQ For Aperture

ImageIQ For Aperture is the image search tool missing from Aperture. With ImageIQ, you search for images, not their metadata. Similar images are tagged with the name of the image you are searching for.

ImageIQ uses the same algorithms found in the latest versions of Aperture Duplicate Detector (ADD) and ADD For iPhoto. These algorithms profile your images and ImageIQ searches for similarities. It works to find these similarities independent of file format and image size. Most color adjustments and image rotations are also detected.

Version 1.2.5

Amazing and Fast - First - I'm a real user, not a PR person for the developer. I've got over 29,000 images in my main Aperture library. Not all are original shots - some are editted variations of a single shot. Now - you would think they'd all be right next to each other in the same project… well if you have an iPhone and/or iPad and do editting with them you know that images can end up all over the place. (I auto import my iPhone & iPad images to aperture in separate libs - so the original image could be in another library). This application does an amazing job at finding similiar items - and finding them FAST. It's finding variations of images I forgot I had! The developer is very responsive and has responded favorable with suggestions. My guess is he's a photo enthusiast with a big library too and he really wants this app to help folks out. Bottom line - if you have a library with any kind of volume in it, take and edit a lot of pics - you need this app! Version 1.2.5: Excellent updates! The developer has done a great job of implementing features which let you explore more possible matches to a target image. The app will provide you insight into how many more images would be found if you relax the similiarity setting. This is very helpful if you are trying to be sure you've found all matches. You can also easily undo the last search and it will remove the keywords tagged in Aperture. This allows you a fresh start if too many dis-similiar images where found. Again - I have to say, if you have a lot of images and image edit versions, this app will help you find all the variants.

Very slow - It's very slow on my MacBook Pro (15", quad-core i7, 8GB RAM). The developer should add an option to run it on part of the library.
