IP Scanner Pro for Macintosh scans your local area network to determine the identity of all machines and internet devices on the LAN. Powerful results, yet easy and intuitive to use.

IP Scanner is all about customizing the way you view your network. You may apply custom names and icons to the devices on your network and adjust the type and amount of information you see in the network overview; don't need to see the MAC address column...don't display it! Text too small...make it larger!

IP Scanner can be used in several primary modes: as a way to get a quick overview of which devices are currently on the network, including seeing which devices are actively and passively present, or view network changes over time with IP Scanner's 'cumulative mode', including options to display devices which were once present but now no longer visible.

Finally, by using the whitelist feature you may filter out known and trusted devices to reveal new or unexpected ones, a great way to easily identify unwanted network visitors.

Other notable features:

•Sort network list by device name, IP address, MAC address or Last Seen
•Growl support for notifications of newly discovered devices and changes in device state
•Right-click a device to obtain additional contextualized tool options, including Ping, WOL and Port Scan tools
•Local network segments are scanned automatically; custom ranges may be added manually

I use this all the time - I have a network of imacs, ipads, server, etc. from my home office, and home school, with VPNs, switches, POE ip cameras, etc.. IP Scanner Pro is by far the easiest and most UI friendly way I've found ever so far to manage the devices on my network and easily access them via VNC, browser, etc. managing and being able to name all the devices to access quickly in our busy lives. We've never had issues with this software, yes it could use a little more advanced tools for networking purposes, but this has been a jewel in my networking tools and I use it almost every single day.

Local Net Only?? - This app totally didn't live up to expectations, and is a complete waste of $10. You can add custom networks, but good luck getting it to scan for devices. Also, something as simple as expanding the window size is broken. Go elsewhere. Can I get a refund?

Does a good job of scanning, some small niggles - It does a good job of scanning the network for devices including name, mac address, ip, ipv6, manufacturer. Some small niggles: The default ITALIC font choice is unfortunate but luckily there is a font customization option in the prefs. Does not remember column order. I like to reorder columns in a certain way and quitting the app loses my ordering. Same issue with the Regular and Home versions of this app. Sometimes it shows some of the Apple devices as “Apple device/computer” instead of showing the name and proper icon. Waking the device and/or rescanning the network or restarting the app seems to fix the issue. The Prefs panel uses very small fonts and controls. Wish it would use the system standard sizes so it would look normal.
