El Capitan Fix! (: - I too was having the issue with scanning from my HP All in One printer using El Capitan. Downloaded this and was able to connect and start scanning right away. I actually found i like this software better then any other software i was using. The other way i was doing this was time consuming. I had to edit and recrop all the images i was scanning. This application automatically crops the images you scan. Making it significantly shorter compared to other software and printers… Really nice (Also note if you're having issues try using USB, my HP Photosmart Premuim All in One C410A uses WPA to connect to the internet. With a new router this printer became completely outdated as it could not use Wifi anymore. So maybe USB will work better for you as well. Works great for me.)

Does Not work With Sierra - Updated, Works Now :) - I recently purchased a HP color laser jet all-in-one printer and after upgrading to Sierra I can no longer scan to my computer. I contacted HP support and after a lot of back and forth I was told by the tech support guy that the latest drivers have not been updated to support Sierra. In fact he had no idea if HP was working on updates at all. He recommended going back to El Capitan (not an option). Which brings me to HP Easy Scan. I had the previous version (1.5) on my Mac and of course it did not work with Sierra. I have updated to the latest version and the situation has not changed. Of course, when it was working the app worked fine and was useful for the majority of my scanning needs. I say shame on you HP. The drivers for your products should have been ready with the release of Sierra or within a week of its release at most. I am sure HP is not showing the same contempt for its’ Windows based customers. I recommend avoiding until HP decides to get their act together. ***UPDATE - December 3, 2016*** HP has just released a driver update. All is right with the world again. I have scanned to my computer thru HP Easy Scan as well as Pixelmator, Affinity Design and GIMP. Everything is working without a hitch. Scan to your hearts content. I will upgrade my rating to 3.5 stars. HP loses 1.5 stars for very bad customer service.

Mr. - If I could rate a software in the negative range, I would rate it a -5. My question is to Apple. Why does Apple put an App on their site that won’t work with Sierra!!!!!

HP Should be Embarrassed - I own an HP Scanjet 5590, which is a low end professional series and a stand alone scanner. Since I updated to HP Easy Scan ver 1.8, and running the most current version of El Capitan, this app has seriously compromised the function of this scanner. I continually receive the error message, “Scanner reported an error. HP Scanjet 5590 is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again.” The scanner buttons have been rendered useless. My drivers are up to date. Once again, HP has offered seriously defective software that hampers their products. HP should be embarrassed. Is HP even aware of the miserable ratings for this app? What do they plan to do about this garbage?

Didn’t work on my iMac Sierra HP Photosmart C7200 All In One - Didn’t work on my iMac Sierra HP Photosmart C7200 All In One Seemed to see the printer by name but then gave this prompt when I tried to scan: …"HP Photosmart C7200 series is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again.”… (I tried just about anything and while Preview works fine which I’ll have to use because with Sierra, HPScan saves what looks like a sucessfully scanned doc as a black page once you go to save it, export or share doesn’t seem to function at all.) Just try Preview, seems to work fine. Too bad.

It scans under Sierra. Works like you want. - I just use the scanner to get items into e-format. Not looking for every optionality. On a 2012 iMac with Sierra OS and an OfficeJet 8600 this software worked first time (and later times) just fine. Recognized the printer even though it is connected via interconnected cables and not directly to the machine. Wish that I could output directly to other software programs rather than saving off the file.

Works well with HP Officejet 4500 and Sierra - It’s not perfect, but resored scanning functionality for my MacBook Pro 2016 running Sierra with an Officejet 4500. Nice double-sided scanning option in the settings that allows a single-sided scanner to batch-scan double-sided documents without having to re-sequence the pages (just reload the stack after scanning the first side and click “continue”). You may need to browse for your scanner after launching if it says it can’t find it or that the scanner isn’t avaialble.
