Description:

"Apps like Gravilux awaken an 'Avatar'-like sensitivity to electricity in the body, power in the palms and general connectedness." - NY Times
"Every once in a while, an app will come along that has no practical application whatsoever but is just SO COOL that you have to have it! Gravilux is that sort of app." --iphoneapplicationlist.com
"Of the millions of apps out there, none quite capitalize on the sheer fun and beauty of interactivity the way that Scott Snibbe’s do.” --CoolHunting

** #1 Entertainment App in Mac App Store worldwide ** Top Ten Overall Worldwide ** iTunes Top 10 App of the year for Art and Music on iOS **

Gravilux lets you draw with stars: it’s a combination of painting, animation, art, science, and gaming. As you touch the screen, gravity draws simulated stars to your fingertips. You can tease and twist the particles into galaxies, explode them like a supernova, or color the stars by their speed. Move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to change parameters including gravity, antigravity, number of stars, star size, and color. Gravilux was first released as a work of interactive art by Scott Sona Snibbe that was only available in galleries and museums. The award winning app for iOS is now available for Mac based on the same code.

Interesting idea, but no way to save results - I found this interesting, but i wanted to save the results to a TIF file for inclusion into another work and there is no way to save it. When i used the provided "Gravilux Support" pointer all i got was Twitter - that is NOT support. So, did i miss something or is there a way to save the state of the process as an image, preferably TIF? Without the ability to save it, it isn't much use, so i've given it a rating of 2 stars for the present. Also, in the edge mode, 2nd icon from the left, everything quickly moves to the edge and there isn't much more that you can do with it. Why the three color dots when each simply calls up the color chooser? You may as well have only one color dot to indicate the chooser. When other apps are active and Gravilux is still active, if you move the cursor to the point where you have the Dock, when the Dock comes up, so does the Gravilux controls even though Gravilux isn't the active app. And worse, i cannot get the Gravilux controls to go down unless i return to the Gravilux application. So, interesting, sure, but still needs work.

Wonderful App, One major update needed - I bought this app after reading all the wonderful reviews about it's calming effects and mesmerizing interactivity. I must say, it was extremely well done and really captures your attention. The first time i opened this app, my roommate and i spent about an hour messing around with it and really never got bored. I do have one concern, however. That is that the transition from iOS to mac lost one major selling point of the app, it's response to your touch. It needs an update that makes the particles move based on your touches on the trackpad, not a mouse click. This would greatly increase the interactivity of the application and really put it over the top as the most addictive app in the store. LIke i said, it's a wonderful app, but making this one change would make it near-perfect.

Strangly magnetic - I didn't know what to think before I got it, but 30 calming (and lost) minutes later, I'm having to pull myself away! It's definitely a relaxing app, allowing you to simply get lost in your own universe. The only thing that would be great to have as an addition right now is to have an option for just touching the pad instead of having to click to activate gravity, much like how it acts on the iPad, to make it more fluid and entrancing.
