Solid. - This is an excellent reference. It gives detailed information, examples, etc, and stays relatively inconspicuous in a corner of the screen until you need it. I use it in conjunction with iWoerterbuch, which is a simple translation app but doesn't provide any info other than the word itself (not even masculine/feminine/neuter distinctions). Together, these apps are just what I need to ensure correct usage when I write in German. BE ADVISED: the translations offered in this dictionary are really meant as a tool for native German speakers--at the bottom of each entry, there is a list of translations into several languages, English included, but this is NOT a searchable tool for translation. It is a German dictionary ONLY, as advertised. If you're expecting something more, you will be disappointed. However, as dictionaries go this one is really fantastic and very user-friendly.

Useful examples and synonyms - Regarding being a translation dictionary: The title says "German Dictionary". It does not say "German-English dictionary". However, some set (it doesn't say how many) of common words are translated into a variety of languages. Scroll down to the section that says "Übersetzungen" (translations) and click the hyperlink "Ausklappen" to open the list of translations. The synonym section combined with the examples section is a handy way to get an idea of the particular nuance of a word in German. Not sure any regional influence of this dictionary, but expect it should be in the general ballpark on such things -- certainly closer than just assuming from the English. Conjugation section is a little hard to read for me for the verbs. Would prefer full tables vice "key" tables, but that's probably something more important to the language learner than the German speaker looking for a dictionary. The case section for the nouns is very handy. Also clearly indicates nouns that don't have plurals. Nice to have the iPhone/iPad version, too, so I have a portable reference in the same format. Note that the application's "base" state is the little clipboard bit. When you select a word from the clipboard part, the larger window appears. Both are resizable. I like the ability to shrink the clipboard part and have it off to the side of what I'm working on.

Many Intermediate Words Missing - everytime I wanted to use this since having purchased it, the word I was looking for was not in the dicitonary. I just watned to look up "Gewissheit" and found that the dictionary only has "gewiss", and since I bought this dictionary as an advanced user excited about the synonyms and German-German definitions, this was very upsetting. I need synonyms for and connotation /idiomatic information about "Geweissheit" that I can't guess from just knowing what "gewiss" is (not always at least). Not the translation tool I thought it would be!! Not nearly sophisticated enough!! Why doesn't the Duden do Apps!?

Pretty good, but where are my keyboard shortcuts? - I like the interface and the few searches I've performed so far have worked out, but no ability to tab from the search box to a result and then press Return to open it? At least give me the ability to use my down-arrow key so I don't have to take my hand off the keyboard.
