Works great - I am actually pleasantly surprised at how good this app is. You don’t need to have FB open (which I find distracting) and it has all the capabilities of FB messenger (stickers, emojis, gifs, etc). Sometimes when I restart my MacBook or iMac, it asks me to re-log on, but, whatever, not a biggie. I’m giving it 5 stars because it’s free and it’s a great-quality app so far. Update: I still love this app. I think it’s great and I will keep using it.
Great app! But, what’s going on with the power usage? - On my computer, this chat program uses about four times as much power as everything else on the system combined. I’m running lots of tabs in Safari and lots of tabs in Chrome as well as multiple terminal emulators and KVM sessions and Remote Desktops all at the same time, and this is using 70 “Energy Impact” units whatever those are. Nothing else is ever using more than about 15 consistently, this is at 70 and it’s constant. It works great, but it’s just not efficient with its use of my computer and my use of your program will have to stop just due to bad taste in the programming, even if it is convenient for me. Folks, check Energy use in Activity Monitor. If you’re on a desktop you probably don’t care, but I am on a laptop. EDIT: This even happens when I restrict my computer to the low-power Intel GPU using gfxCardStatus. Also, I shouldn’t need my high power GPU for a chat program! Many inefficiencies here. Nice program visually, convenient, perfectly functional and no bugs that I’ve found, but it’s horribly inefficient. A few simple changes could make it a great program for everyone but it’s not suited to laptops right now.

Doesn’t like 2-factor auth - The app is good if you’re using a plain old username/password pair (which you shouldn’t unless you want to have your account hacked), but if you’re using a 2-factor auth chain the app simply won’t work. Not sure why it doesn’t use the standard Facebook Auth pages that would get the tokens cleanly, but until it does - its a non starter for more secure connection methodologies.
Works well and keeps improving - I’m giving this app 5 stars because it typically works very well. The updates they’ve been putting out help a lot. My only concern is that it will sometimes glitch out when I try to do “special tasks” like muting conversations or sending/opening videos. Otherwise, it works very well.
Prefer Typing to Texting - I was texting via Messenger on my phone and thought…. there must be an app for the Mac to do this without having to text on a phone. There was!!! I love this Mac App. I type so much faster than I can text. I know some think texting is a degradation of communication. I disagree. How often are we caugt in oral conversations where we are only listneing and don’t get a word in edgewise? Texting puts both parties on an equal ground, makes us process the message (sometimes we need to clarify), and make a thoughtful response without blurting out an irrelevant utterance and changing the subject. This App makes it more easier to have a fluid text conversation without waiting for the thumbling response.
Amazing amazing amazing - I never could have thought that someone other than “Facebook”, who has all the money, could make a app that works so smoothe with messenger. This app has exceeded my expectations. I am surprised that”Facebook” never rolled out their own. Anyway, this Freechat for Facebook doesn't skip a beat. It syncs so well with messenger on your phone. I don’t have to open a facebook page to use messenger. I use this app instead for the Mac desktop to communicate. Best of all, it’s free. Being a “Free” app is not always a good thing because it takes time and money to build something good. These guys have gone beyond any “free app” mentality. Check it out for yourself. Naas
