The Mac OS version of our popular iPad/iPhone app.
Fluency Timer is a one-minute digital timer that automatically records students' fluency readings. Just press record and the software does the rest. At the end of 60 seconds, name your file and send to iTunes where you can play for parents, coaches, and students.
It's designed to be simple enough that both teachers and elementary students can use it.
Teachers can use fluency passages that are already a part of their educational program or hundreds of free passages can be downloaded from the Resources section of the Fluency Timer Support site.
Using Fluency Timer will revolutionize fluency assessment, provide an instant independent work time activity, and help students' reading fluency to skyrocket.
Research has shown that having students listen to themselves reading increases students' reading fluency as they hear their own mistakes and work to correct them. By recording fluency assessments, teachers can review results, share recordings with parents, and allow students to hear themselves and practice to read better.

At Long Last - Those of us who do fluency testing will find this app a life saver. It works just as advertised. It's great to be able to go back and compare students' progress throughought the year. My students have been listening to themselves and are trying to read better than they have before. I work with a lot of English Language Learners so it's great for them to assess their own production of spoken English in a way that's actually fun.

literacy coach - Love the app. Extremely useful for those of us to do fluency checks with students. Only drawback - No IPAD app!
Really Helpful - I've been using this program in my classroom when I assess students for reading fluency. It's really useful to have a recording of students reading in case I make a mistake or can't hear them the first time. Now I can play the recording back. The app is also designed simply enough so that students can use it themselves during independent work time or centers. Students LOVE, absolutely love going over to the "reading center" to record themselves reading. It's a great trick to get students to willingly practice increasing their fluency willingly. So far it's been working. Student fluency scores have been increasing. I'm looking forward to having the student recordings to play back for parents during our upcoming parent conferences. I didn't know I needed this app but it's become a great tool for me.
Easy to Use - What I like about this is that it's so easy to use. I teach first grade and so it's simple enough that I can let students use it independently just as easily as I can use it when assessing students. All they have to do is push the record button. There are no other buttons so they can't go wrong. Once you're recording, the record button changes to stop button so you can abort the recording if need be. There are other audio recording apps but the integrated timer means I don't have to watch the clock. A sound plays when one minute is up. When I used to do fluency testing or have students practice testing with each other there would frequently be arguments about where a student stopped when the minute was up...now we just go back to the "tape" to hear exactly where they stopped. This is a simple app that definitely makes my teaching life easier. And it even makes fluency practice and testing fun—imagine that!
DO NOT GET THIS APP - I bought this app then i found out that it ONLY records your voice NOTHING ELSE.It was also not worth the price. You could use photobooth instead of this app it says that it will help if you listen to your mistakes, but you can record yourself on photobooth or something else. In the description it makes it seem SO GOOD but it was not that good. Trust me
only a timer - In the description about the app it makes it seem as though there are fluency passages available from this app. There aren't. They have an “Extras” page on their support site but they are third party sites that you have to either become a member of or they link to books and info on fluency but not the fluency passages themselves.
