Simple, yet powerful - When merging files from a Mac Pro with three 3 TB drives I was distracted for only a moment and reformatted the wrong drive. This was the Media drive I used for most of my stills and clip art accumulated over the past four years. After using Data Rescue 4 to recover all the images I realized that due to files being moved from drive to drive and folder to folder I had a TON of reconstructed duplicates on my recovery drive. I looked at several other programs and tried Snapselect but it was too cumbersome. I then tried DPFP, dragged every recovered folder into the workspace and let it run. In total I recovered over 179,000 duplicates. If I had to make the decision myself the display showed me the varying file sizes which would help me choose which files to keep, and which to trash. But wait . . . there’s more! The Auto Mark feature allowed me to specify which photo in each group had the highest priority and allowed me to mark and batch delete all but one of the files in each groupong of duplicates, thus saving me not hours, but DAYS of work scrutinizing every group. Over 147,000 files were mass deleted in a matter of less than 30 minutes. Granted, you may not have the volumes of files I did, and you may not be as easily distracted as I and format the wrong drive but this program did exceedingly, abundantly more than I ever expected for $1.
Does not work with new “Photos Library: - Bought this at half off couple days ago to kill duplicates in my iPhoto Library, however it’s not titled “iPhotos Library” anymore; it’s “Photo Library” with the demise of iPhoto. Does not work with this app. This 1.3.1 update does nothing as app still does not accept the new “Photos Library."

It’s great, but... - The program is great in that it lets you, the user, control how similar the images must be before they are considered a match. That is a great feature. Others here have stated that the “delete procedure” on the instructions aren’t clear enough. They have a link on the last step-by-step window that purports to take you to detailed instructions fore deleting from the duplicates album. However, my server won’t let me go there because the link was identified as being “Malware”. It is a pain that you get through the entire pass through the files, choose the actual duplicates and then press the delete key and all that happens is the files are deleted from the album, not the library. With my library of more than 115,000 unique images, the process takes awhile initially. How hard is it to get the developer to show on the last screen that you need to right click and choose delete once you’ve selected all the images in the duplicates folder? (A tip for those who may not know, press command-A to select all the images when the “Duplicate Marked Photos” album is the active window.) Other than this one thing, there aren’t any negative issues. It does exactly what it says it will. Once this little wrinkle is worked out, the program really is an elegant solution for dealing with duplicate images. It’s great overall.
Works as advertised - Did exactly what I expected. I think some people have had trouble actually deleting the photos from the Duplicate Marked Photos folder. I found you need to select them all (click and drag over them) and then right-click on one and choose to Delete. Simply selecting them and clicking the delete key only removed them from the folder, not photos. The instructions could be clearer here.
Do Not Buy! Save Your Money - I had a lot of duplicate photos in my photo library and didn’t want to have to go through and manually delete all of the duplicate photos. I thought this would be a great way to save time… I had at least several hundred duplicates simply because of mulitple iPhone imports that were done incorrectly (Thanks Apple #sarcasm). This app only found 10….Yes, 10! duplicate photos out of hundreds that I had in my library…. I am contacting Apple and I am asking for my money back…This was a complete waste of time and money and the results were horrible. I did read the instructions to make sure I was working the app correctly and I even watched YouTube tutorials as well. I followed the instructions as given and I still had the same results of only finding 10 duplicate photos… What a waste.
Not what expected from high review ratings - Your mileage may vary. Based on the high rating average and posiive reviews, I gave this a try. I have been trying many cleanup apps. This was not the worst, but I was seriously disappointed. The exact matching caught less than half the exact image matches that PhotoSweeper (my final winner) did. Initially, I tried using it by adding a couple local file paths of images that had not yet been imported into iPhoto. While it offers some options to customize my automarking needs (7 criteria), it was missing a few critical ones that I found in the 21 criteria that PhotoSweeper allowed. Too much manual review was required after matching similar images. It most often wanted to delete the image I would have preferred to keep. My support experience: Most importantly, when I told it to delete local files (not in Photos library), it went through and said it had moved them to the Trash. Unfortunately, when I checked the Trash it was empty and the files were still in the original location. Contact support by phone. They did a remote login to my system and when what I explained about local files didn't work, the support person started jumping into my preferences and telling me I needed to turn on the firewall (actually, she just straight activated it without asking) and that I needed to buy internet protection software. This had no bearing on my issue. My security infrastructure with firewalls at the incoming router level, has zero to do with why the application would not delete local files. Rather than listen to my questions, she then started to open Photos to apparently check it out. For the purposes of the call I had created a local directory of image files and made a duplicate folder to provide an easy to examine scenario.
Keeps crashing! - Using High Serra on iMac with this app and it keeps crashing randomly. The other most annoying thing with this developer is the constant badgering to rate there app! So here you go! Works great when it works but keeps crashing randomly causing you to start over.
