Description:

Conquer the new world

Combining elements from both trading and strategy games, Commander: Conquest of the Americas will appeal to a wide range of players.

Players take charge of one of the many European powers aiming to conquer the New World. Starting from 16th century, players can choose from many different nations, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Founding new colonies and then making them thrive is key to success. In order to accomplish this, players need to manage and optimize resources and production in their colonies, before transporting the goods to other colonies or back to Europe.

Rival powers and Native Americans can prove to be allies or enemies, depending on the player decisions. Hostile fleets engage each other in highly detailed tactical level. Players can command their ships in RTS fashion or take direct control themselves.

Waste of money and time - Looks promising but fails. On 2012 MBPr, 10.8.3: Consistently locks up whenever game is paused. Skimpy manual.

It's OK - Compared to other micro-management classics like Europa Universalis… this game falls a little short. The Trading aspect is nice but, gets a little redundant as upgrades just get you more product after the first few, the warehouse feature in the colonies is confusing at best and doesn't work well with the auto trade feature as a system where you manage each load could really help using this feature. Combat of ships is OK with the auto resolve feature for those who don't want to do the RTS option. All in all the 1st part of the game is the most interesting but after the 1st few colonies get get going it just becomes a little tedious and repetitive with very little new content to hold your interest!
