Chess Deluxe - Excellent overall, wide range of AI strength, with beautifully rendered boards. This is now my favorite app when I want to play chess. Shortcomings are few for a first version: Help needs to be updated for Mac port from iOS. No way to resign from a lost position. Program announces checkmate before making it's move. Move timer keeps running after mate.

Totally a waste of time - The game has no obvious controls. You can start, but not stop. You are better off buying a PC along with the Chess Master application. That works. BY the way, sending a review is a real pain.

This is the first time to give one star - the page cannot change and there is no select option. Just played one game and that it is. I'm very disappointed with that.

Very Good App - This is an excellent, no frills chess opponent. The controls (Including a wide range of playing strengths) are located in the Preferences Menu, which is found by clicking on the title "Chess Deluxe" in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen. During game play you can make it vary its' opening by using keyboard "Command-Z" to back up Black's second move, then make the Black move of your choice. The app starts playing White, and responds with White's move #3. At that point you can either continue as Black, or regain White by repeating the same procedure ("Command-Z" to back up White's move #3) and thus resume playing White. The keyboard "Command-N" starts a new game anytime. If you enjoy playing chess, you don't need anything more. For the price, I don't think a chess player can get a better buy!

Needs to show available moves for a piece - I haven’t used this much at all but one of the first things I noticed is that if you click on a piece, this game doesn’t show you the possible, legal moves. While I don’t need this, my girlfriend who wants to learn chess would find this very useful. This is an obvious refinement that should be in this app by now. Note that Stockfish supports this. Also, this game doesn’t support full screen mode properly nor can the board be resized. Not good.

Chess Deluxe - So far so good. Other than the timer not stopping after checkmate this game works well. For 99 cents this is a good bargain. I recommend this game.

Chess Deluxe - I do not recomend this game at all. Any one familiar with chess engines knows that all of the good ones have 50 or more standard openings in them. This one seems to have none. That means from the first move the App is sitting there thinking for a minute when it should make an instant move. Do they think their engine is going to come up with a new opening? It seems to be a little stronger at the late middle to end game then the chess program that came with my MAC. So I wasted 99c. No I wasted my time. Don’t waste yours.
