Characters makes it easy for writers, designers and developers to access special characters. They are easily found and copied to your clipboard, either as the character itself or the html code.
For example, if you need the copyright symbol, just type "copy" into the search bar and the app finds the character you're looking for. With one click you can copy it to your clipboard.
The app knows which characters you use the most and those will always stay at the top, so you can access them easily.
“For me, Characters is an easy, and visually attractive, solution that’s faster than accessing and using Character Viewer.”
– Dan Frakes, macworld.com
“The best part about Characters is how it lets you copy characters to the clipboard.”
– Federico Viticci, macstories.net
“If you find yourself needing them a lot, or just want quick access to silly Emojis, Characters is well worth its $2.99 price tag.”
– Shep McAllister, lifehacker.com
“It’s simple, it works, and it looks great. And it’s the perfect example of the cheap single-serve apps that were hard to sell before the Mac App Store.”
– Charlie Sorrel, cultofmac.com
Available character sets:
- Block elements
- Geometric shapes
- Latin Extended-A
- Phonetic Alphabet

Most Helpful Reviews
Love It! - This app is the quickest way to get access to special characters! I originally bought it for development purposes, because it’s a great way to get to symbols like fractions, degrees symbols, etc. to use in my apps 📲. But, I also love using it to grab a special character for a message or tweet… or even a review 👍 So far every character I’ve needed has been in there, so it’s definitely not lacking on characters. Perhaps the other reviewer that complained it didn’t have ★ or ☆ didn’t have the right character sets selected in the Settings of the app, because they are definitely in there (I just got both of those from the app).

A Variety of Useful Symbols available in multiple applications - Although special characters are available in some general applications, such as Microsoft Word, they are neglected or missing from other applications, including database applications such as FileMaker Pro, which accepts text but doesn’t provide special character support. This application nicely fills a niche.
Handy Little App! - I wish this UI was updated a bit and had a “favorites” section (instead of just a small “most used” section), but all in all, a beautiful little app!
Awesome! - As a computer science student all my instructors wanted me to learn how to use LATEX and this app saved me from having to! Only recomendations I could make would be for the developers to add tags to the symbols to increase the number of search results.
