Description:

BioShock – one of the greatest games of all time is now on the Mac!

Before you buy, expand this description to check the system requirements below.

Welcome to Rapture. A city where opportunity awaits those brave enough to grasp it. A city where the artist need not fear the censor. Where the scientist is not bound by petty morality. Where the great are not held back by the weak.

Set in an alternate 1960, BioShock places you in the middle of an underwater utopia gone badly wrong. With a provocative and intelligent storyline, this is a game that is alternately beautiful, thrilling, funny, frightening and always involving. An experience that makes you think while you play.

Key features:

• Award-winning – BioShock has won numerous game of the year awards and features in Metacritic’s top 10 highest rated games of all time.

• Genre blender – Combines a clever mix of genres: First-person shooter with elements of role-playing and stealth.

• Superb visual style – An art deco world with advanced visual effects combine to create a creepy, immersive environment in which players can lose themselves.

• Sophisticated concept and story line – BioShock incorporates ideas about science and politics, raising profound questions about human nature, the role of government in society, and the morality of harming individuals for the greater good.

• Replayability – No two gamers will play BioShock the same way. Players are encouraged to explore all the nooks and crannies of Rapture.

• Exquisite sound design – Outstanding voice acting helps drive the narrative. Music from the 1940s and 1950s echoes through Rapture’s abandoned hallways.

Worth every penny - Before I got this game I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I've never played a Bioshock game before (until I purchased it on here obviously), but after hearing many positive reviews and the reviews that are already on this page I decided to take a risk and buy it. I remember thinking that $20 is a little pricy compared to what I usually get on here, but after playing the first 10 minutes of this game I was hooked. The gameplay, the soundtrack, the environments and the atmosphere of the game is just incredible (there is sometimes lag when the graphics are too high but the game never freezed at all). If you're only just thinking about buying this game then take my advice: get it. This game is easily one of the best games that I have ever played.

Supported controller doesn’t work - I purchased this game after setting up my PS4 controller to work with my Mac and discovering the control scheme provided by the developer. The controller mostly works perfectly, except the trigger buttons are intermittent. This totally ruins the game. I’ve contacted Feral Support, and if they provide a fix I’ll update my review. For now, it’s unplayable.

Amazing. Highly recommend it. - Great game, one of the best decisions I've ever made. Highly recommend it. :) I know a lot of people are hesistant to get this game for two reasons: 1) This game is almost 5 years old, and two new Bioshocks have come out! It doesn't matter. Just because this game is old doesn't mean it isn't still one of the best games ever made! 2) I don't think my Mac will be able to run this game. Trust me, I can alnost guarantee it will work beautifully. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro 13", don't have Lion or Mountain Lion, and I've never had a single lag or freeze! I've heard it runs great on even OLDER devices. It takes only 1.5 gigabytes of RAM! Anyway, amazing game, great Mac adaptation, highly recommend you get it while it's on sale, although it's still worth $20. :)

Setting the bar - Like many people here have said, this game sets a new bar to video gaming. Not only does it have stunning graphics and a great story line; it sets a new tone for gameplay. Usually in video games, you are hinted towards making certain decisions but not here. In this game you make the decisions and must also work with the consequences (a bit vague but don’t want to give away the game). Bioshock allows you to roam freely through the levels finding different items. The only drawback I can think of is there are no side games; it is just the missions you work on and that’s about it. Overall, this is one of the best games I’ve played!

A literary masterpiece of a game. - Bioshock contains one of the most thoughful plots and settings ever seen in gaming. Not many games will touch the idea of a “me first” society, but Bioshock does, and shows its opinion that in said society, the selfish attitude would result in addicts, murderers, and psychotic people. And it’s all tightly wound in a solid FPS where your main enemy is the splicer, a person who has so relied on the effects of Plasmids and EVE that they have lost all sense of morality. In addition, the graphics are still good today, with excellent water effects and a beautifully rendered city called Rapture. It questions the role of the player character and is a good experience, not only for book nerds like me who read Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, but for anyone looking for something a little different.
