Audio Plugin Player is a lightweight VST and AU instrument plugin host, that allows you to play these instruments using either your mouse, computer keyboard, or MIDI device (both hardware and software MIDI devices supported). It has a simple, one-screen interface, that will let you start making music with your favorite audio instrument plugins in seconds – just drop your plugin onto the application window, make your input and output choices, and you're ready! Audio Plugin Player allows you to route your plugin instrument through a plugin effect (either VST or AU), and also lets you route external audio through a plugin effect too.
• New ability to route external audio input through effect plugin, rather than output of plugin instrument
• New ability to transpose notes when in MIDI input mode
• New ability to send MIDI output generated from plugin instrument
• New ability to unload a plugin without loading a new one
• New ability to refresh patch names for plugins
• New ability to close preferences window by clicking logo on top, as well as by Close button
• Fixed bug in QWERTY Global input mode, should now be more reliable on various systems
• Updated app to comply with Mac App Store sandbox restrictions

Works Well - Works as advertised under Lion (10.7.4) without any problems. Runs Pianoteq 4 and Zebralette plugins, including their GUIs and their own add ons & presets. Good value.

Great app! Read on! - I have sevral plugins that do NOT have a stand alone mode and this app runs them all perfectly. It's VERY flexible and allows the plugins to even operate as part of my modular synth setup when recording Patching Chaos. (i.e. as an external synth being controlled by custom Reaktor code. It's controlled by Reaktor and the audio is brought back in to Reaktor.) Very nice product! At this price, it's a no brainer!
Not really so good. - The interface doesn’t allow you to play the entire 88 note scale. The clock doesn’t send consistently to any app that has it’s own sequencer or arp. I would like a refund :/
A good extra AU/VST Host to help with live performance - This app is a great way to get a single midi keyboard playing a single instrument from a single pre -determined midi channel. Depending on the the instrument plug-in, it can also often allow quick patch changes on that instrument plug-in with the track pad on the Macbook Pro. It is now my go to app for several older plug-ins that are not showing up in Logic Pro X! Not to mention that it also allows access to VST plug-in instruments that Logic ProX, GarageBand 10 & MainStage don’t. If you have upgraded to any of the new versions of Apple music software you will find Audio Plug-in player will run several of the Plug-ins that no longer show up in the new Apple music Apps. For live performance, it is another piece of the puzzle for a musician with multiple keyboards attempting to have them routed to several different instrument plug-is so he is able to play several different instruments at once or jump to a new keyboard and new sound . Are there problems, inconsistencies, crashes etc. ? Yes, but in my experience it is the older, unsupported, or crowd sourced plug-ins that are the culprits. I give it 5 stars because for $3 I got to keep several plug-ins I rely on running when I perform live.
Nice little app! - Awesome update to a great little app! Really useful for quick and dirty use of plugins (both instruments and effects). Nice to see the developer still updating this too, based on user feedback!
Great idea, some problems - I bought this as an alternative to using mainstage as an AU host (with soundflower to route) and apply room correction software to my default audio outputs. Mainstage is heavy, and a full DAW is even worse. (Another option is to use AULab from Apple, but that requires a full install of Xcode.) I was pretty excited to find something that met my needs. Except it doesn't: Doesn't support 64 AU/VST plugins. Crashes on loading the *only* plugin that I want this for (IK ARC2,) actually it crashes on about half of my third party plugins. Doesn't have an Audio Unit browser (was it installed system-wide, in my profile, in the all-users profile … annoying.)
