Description:

Air Display for Mac lets you use a spare Mac’s screen as an extra display for your main Mac. Launch this app on your spare Mac, then wirelessly connect to it from the free host app you’ll install on your main Mac to instantly expand its screen real estate.

IMPORTANT: This is NOT the free Air Display host software that you need on your main computer. You can download that at getairdisplay.com. This is the client app that turns a Mac into a second monitor for another computer.

— FEATURES —

• Drag windows, apps, or control palettes from your main screen to give yourself more room to work
• Use up to 4 devices simultaneously to extend or mirror your computer
• Choose to run full screen or in a window
• Either extend your screen to get more room to work or mirror to share your screen with an audience
• Connect via Wi-Fi or over Ethernet
• Extremely responsive performance
• Mouse responsiveness indistinguishable from using a wired mouse

— INSTALLATION —

You’ll need the free Air Display host app (from getairdisplay.com) installed on your main Mac, and this Air Display client app running on the Mac you want to use as an extra screen.

• Purchase this app on the Mac you want to use as your second display
• On your main computer, go to getairdisplay.com and install the free host app

If you want to use your iPad or other mobile device as your second screen, you do not need to purchase this app. Air Display for iOS is available in the iTunes App Store (and you’ll still need the same free host software from getairdisplay.com on your main computer).

— COMPATIBILITY —

• Both computers must be on the same Wi-Fi network, either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet
• Mac client app: iOS 6 and above
• Mac OS X host: 10.7 and above
• The Air Display Host is not compatible with Windows

I NOW LOVE THIS APP, IT'S A POWER-USER'S DREAM COME TRUE - When I first downloaded this app I didn't find nearly as much use for it as I had originally anticipated. But that changed over time: I now make use of Air Display almost every day. Air Display has become indispensable. This change in utility came about (for me) because: 1) Improvements have been made which make Air Display a very usable product. Intermittent delays initially seen when sharing screens between two of my laptops have been eliminated. 2) I started making regular use of two computers side-by-side: a Mac Mini hooked up to my 30" Cinema Display, alongside a MacBook Pro. Using Air Display, I can now easily access the 30" monitor with either computer. 3) I absolutely love this: in Mac OS X, a new *Space* is created for your Air Display (as in all of the "spaces" that are available to you from Mission Control) -- the host computer which is acting as a secondary virtual monitor to your "primary" computer creates a new *space* with an Air Display icon to the right of all of your other spaces, which then allows you to very easily switch between using the host computer as an Air Display and using the computer itself directly, simply by moving to any of the other spaces using Mission Control. Wow, this is truly great. 4) As if that weren't enough, last night I discovered that it is possible to combine use of Air Display with Mac OS X's built in screen sharing facility (google "Share Screen Mac OS X" if you don't know about this), and the result is the ability to make use of both computer's monitors *on both computers* -- a little tricky to start, but once you have the routine down you'll be rockin' and rollin' on both of your computers *utilizing both computers' screens*. Air Display is the key "ingredient" that makes this all possible. (In other words: with Air Display running on both computers, I've found that each computer can effectively share its' screen with the other computer *simultaneously*. To do this, make use of the "spaces" feature referred to above, combine that with Mac OS X Lion's Screen Sharing facility and you have a lot of screens and a lot of power at your fingertips…. can you tell I'm excited? : ) Kudos to the Avatron crew, Air Display has proven itself well. One last tip to POWER-USERS interested in setting things up with two computers side-by-side as described above: if you have Firewire 400/800 ports on your two computers, for very fast network connectivity turn Internet Sharing on at the Sharing pane in System Preferences. Network communication between two computers in this way is as fast (and in some configurations even FASTER!) than connecting to an external hard drive, and certainly much faster than wi-fi. (This may also be possible using Thunderbolt, but not sure on that yet since only one of my two computers has this port.) I currently share my Ethernet (Internet) connection over FireWire 800 which allows screens from each computer to be shared with the other "as quickly as possible" -- screen refresh rate is quite good.

Waste of Money - This is a $20 app that does not do what is advertised. Basically it does display an extended window on the device that the app is installed on. ( In my case a 2014 macbook pro) however the mouse and refresh rate is slow slow it is useless. I contacted Avatron for refund who reffered me to Apple who reffered me to Avatron - you know the rest - big waste of money !!

Laggy, and lots of refresh lines - App doesn’t work for me. Running Yosemite and was told that the app does not work with Yosemite. Hoping I can get my money back as this was a huge waste of trouble shooting time for myself and my company. If you have Yosemite I would stay clear of this app.

peferct and easy for the 3rd monitor operation on OSX - Choose this application to use as a 3rd monitor (usually display finder) on OSX. After comparison of people’s reviews and ratings of similar applications, Airport display got decent compatibility and preserve oroginal resolusion of primary and secondary monitors as well as reversibility. a little bit of Dollor is needed, but works perfectly. It is so nice.

Give it another try... - Like the previous reviewer, I hope that others who downloaded this reconsider their review. I NEVER review anything but I felt compelled to do so for this application. I am connecting a MacBook Pro on OS X 10 to an iPad Air. Considering this is extending a desktop over wireless, I am EXTREMELY pleased with this product. It did take me a little bit to connect both, but the help features of the app helped a lot. I used two monitors at home and at work and was looking for an application to make this option portable. I carry my iPad and my Mac around together anyway, so this is the perfect application for on-the-go work. I highly recommend. Once you make a connection to another device, the second time is much, much easier!
