Ordinary folders in the Mac OS X Finder are always displayed with the same boring old blue folder icon.
Sometimes you might want to liven this up. Perhaps you browse a music collection through the Finder as well as in iTunes, or have photos that you browse in the Finder as well as in iPhoto. You might create artwork, or own a collection of home movie DVD files. Whatever things you have, one thing is for sure — the standard blue folder icon doesn't give you many clues about the folder's contents.
This is where Add Folder Icons comes in. It uses any pictures found inside a given folder to create a customised icon based on a configurable icon style. There is a set of built-in icon styles and you can create your own.
AppleScript support has been extended a lot, increasing the possibilities for scripted behaviour. See the Help documentation for full information. Visit the support web site to find some real-world useful examples available for download.

With a *tiny* bit of perseverance this app pays off big - In response to several of the previous reviewers - did you give up reading that book because it didn't have on the cover 'open here by grasping one of these corners (arrows pointing at corners) and pull gently toward you…' ? It's pretty simple to work out - if you make sure there's only one picture in the folder when you run the app (note - move all other images out of the folder - make the icon - then put them back!) - and select 'one image' on the edit styles - you have full control. Also - it's not just limited to album art - any JPG or - wait for it - PNG with transparency (!) makes for an astoundingly flexible and useful tool. Now… where's the instructions for these toothpicks….?
STUPID - I HATE THIS, DON'T DOWNLOAD IT! It's nothing at all like the screen shots and it doesn't let you remove the icon. For me, it stopped changing it altogether. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS! SAVE YOURSELF THE MISERY.

Can’t add icons - Does not work for me (OS 10.11.6). Installed fine, easily loaded folder that icon was intended for, but it would not add an icon.
Not made for large folders - I was excited to try this out since I have many folders, but I keep getting a failure notice. I was told I might have too many folders. That defeats the purpose of using this. It is because I have so many folders and files I want to use this. It does however work on folders with very few files inside. I tested that with a folder on my desktop containing three PNG images. This just won’t work for me.
